Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The communal administration of Praia Bebe\u0301 and the office of its owner, in the municipality of Catumbela (Benguela), were recently the target of robberies by unknown individuals.<\/b><\/p>\n

“In the Administration they took all the equipment, because we don’t have guards”, said the acting administrator, Ce\u0301sar Saprinho.<\/p>\n

According to him, these events occurred between the month of August and the beginning of September this year.<\/p>\n

In addition to the residents who are harassed almost daily, the MPLA Party Committee, as well as the warehouse of a young merchant, robbed in broad daylight, also did not escape.<\/p>\n

“This situation is causing fear among the population”, he warned.<\/p>\n

Asked about preventive measures, he said that the Administration requested the intervention of the Municipal Command of the National Police, but nothing was done.<\/p>\n

The only police station in the commune is devoid of men and resources to counter the actions of the criminals, he added.<\/p>\n

“We planned a meeting with the members of the commune’s Auditing Council to discuss and find solutions to definitively neutralize the actions of the criminals”, he explained.<\/p>\n

Afternoon market<\/p>\n

Another situation that catches the attention of people passing by is the market, which is closed for almost the entire day.<\/p>\n

This market was built in 2018, in 120 days, within the scope of the Integrated Program for Local Development and Combating Poverty (PIDLCP).<\/p>\n

With 144 benches, the project cost the State coffers ten million and 660 thousand kwazas.<\/p>\n

Regarding this aspect, Ce\u0301sar Saprinho said that for several years now the squares have only been open in the afternoon, due to the fact that the population is mainly made up of fishermen and farmers.<\/p>\n

“They leave very early for their activities and return late in the afternoon with their product and part of it is channeled to the market”, he said.<\/p>\n

Regarding electricity, he said that the commune is well served, as it is connected to the national grid.<\/p>\n

Although a large part of the urban area has prepaid energy, there was some concern about a conflict between the population and the National Energy Distribution Company (ENDE), regarding estimated charging.<\/p>\n

Many customers considered the rate speculative, while others thought that the energy supply should be free, as they believed it to be “a State obligation”.<\/p>\n

He reported that awareness campaigns with the aim of regularizing the situation have been effective.<\/p>\n

“Water distribution also does not present any major problems, except for the lack of water in some places and in others where the pressure is very low”, he stated.<\/p>\n

The Education and Health sectors are also able to meet the demand, due to the new infrastructures built within the framework of the Integrated Plan for Intervention in Municipalities (PIIM), which allowed the inclusion of many children in the education system and shortened distances to the population, in seeking health.<\/p>\n

Education has four schools, from primary, first and second cycles, while Health has a medical center and another medical center will soon be opened.<\/p>\n

Potentially rich in fish, Praia Bebe\u0301 has artisanal fishing as one of its main activities.<\/p>\n

In this regard, Ce\u0301sar Saprinho, also a fisherman, minimized speculation about the scarcity of fish, stating that it depends on the season.<\/p>\n

“With the exception of the months of June and July, where it is very cold, we have plenty of fish”, he assured.<\/p>\n

The deputy administrator recalled that the rise in the price of gasoline caused some inconvenience to fishermen who use boats with outboard motors, but the situation was remedied with the fuel subsidy, through fuel cards granted by the Ministry of Transport.<\/p>\n

Praia Bebe\u0301 is one of the three communes in the municipality of Catumbela and has an estimated population of 14 thousand, 882 inhabitants (2014).<\/p>\n
