Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The ambassador of Guinea-Bissau to Angola, Apolina\u0301rio Mendes de Carvalho, defended, this Tuesday, in Luanda, the creation of a bilateral joint commission between the two countries, aiming to boost cooperation.<\/b><\/p>\n

Speaking to the press, at the end of an audience granted by the Vice-President of the Republic, Esperanc\u0327a da Costa, the Guinean diplomat highlighted the importance of this mechanism, as it will allow choosing priorities and working, as best as possible, on matters linked to the exchange of visits at the highest level.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is necessary to revisit the different agreements that exist and work on preparing the great joint commission between the two countries\u201d, he stressed, pointing out the existence of agreements in some areas, with emphasis on agriculture, justice, transport and the military branch.<\/p>\n

In general, Apolina\u0301rio Mendes de Carvalho considered relations between Angola and Guinea-Bissau to be good and made it known that the parties are currently working to give new substance to it and impact its goals.<\/p>\n

During the meeting, issues linked to the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of Guinea-Bissau’s independence, to be celebrated on the 24th of this month, as well as the country’s community in Angola, were also discussed.<\/p>\n

According to the ambassador, the Guinean community benefits from an extraordinary process of regularization of its members in the country, during which it is expected to legalize between 800 and a thousand immigrants in an irregular situation, although he recognizes that the number of co-citizens in this condition is greater.<\/p>\n

Guinea-Bissau was the first Portuguese colony on the continent to become independent, on September 24, 1973.<\/p>\n
