Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>A technical failure in the filtration system of the largest Water Treatment Plant in the city of Luena, capital of the province of Moxico, restricted the supply of the precious liquid to the city and outskirts, by around 90 percent.<\/b><\/p>\n

Speaking Monday, the person responsible for the Communication and Marketing area at EPAS\/Moxico, Domingos Jaime, said that the incident was caused by a malfunction in a ETA compressor, which made it impossible to receive water from from the Lumege River catchment, the largest supply station in the province.<\/p>\n

According to the person responsible, restoring the supply depends on the travel of a technical team from Luanda to the city of Luena, which will be able to resolve the aforementioned breakdown.<\/p>\n

To mitigate the situation, he said that a plan has been drawn up that could come into force (Monday) that will alternate the distribution of water in some neighborhoods in the region, from the Luena River catchment, with a smaller production capacity (200 cubic meters\/hour), compared to 620 cubic meters\/hour) at the Lumege river station.<\/p>\n

This plan will have three weekly frequencies in each neighborhood, according to the person responsible, to meet the needs of the population.<\/p>\n

In the city of Luena, around 200 thousand people are supplied with running water, with a coverage of around 31 percent, in a region where close to half of the population lives, with 468 thousand 369 inhabitants, according to the projection of the National Institute of Statistics (INE).<\/p>\n
