Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Dubai Ports (DP) World is investing 210 million US dollars in the modernization and expansion of the Multipurpose Terminal at the Port of Luanda, its general director for Angola, Francisco Pinzon, announced this Tuesday in Luanda .<\/b><\/p>\n

With this investment, the work on which began this Tuesday, the capacity of the Multipurpose Terminal at the Port of Luanda increases from 430 thousand to 700 thousand containerized units per year.<\/p>\n

According to DP World’s general director for Angola, Francisco Pinzon, the civil construction works, which began tuesday, will last 18 months.<\/p>\n

The project includes the construction of a two-story building for administration and operations, two access branches (loading and unloading), facilities for customs services, the Tax Police and an ultra-modern X-ray.<\/p>\n

In addition to requalifying the operating space and accommodating cargo, the person responsible ensures the installation of equipment such as state-of-the-art \u201cscanners\u201d, in addition to other modern technical and technological means.<\/p>\n

The requalification of the 22 hectares of the Multipurpose Terminal (TMU) will also bring a fuel supply area with greater capacity, a health clinic, three car parks and 588 sockets for refrigerators.<\/p>\n

The Port of Luanda Multipurpose Terminal, attached to the Port of Luanda, processes an average of 13 million tons (loading and unloading), including 20-foot containerized units (TEU), general cargo\/industrial equipment and motor vehicles.<\/p>\n

For Francisco Pinzo\u0301n, the official start of works represents the materialization of the company’s focus based on increasing productivity and the capacity of human resources in handling new technological equipment.<\/p>\n

In this regard, the manager said that the investment of 210 million dollars will result in the digitalization of operational procedures, for all participants, a process that will result in a modern Multipurpose Terminal, safer and with a reduced response time in the processing of goods in order of 50%.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, Francisco Pinzon reiterated DP World’s commitment to supporting operators and entrepreneurs in facilitating the import and export process, in order to increase the flow of goods and boost the diversification of the national economy.<\/p>\n

Asked about the more than two years since the start of operations, March 2021, the general director of DP World-Angola, said that the company recorded annual growth of 15%.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen the works are finished, this increase should be set above the current 50% of the billing volume\u201d, he guaranteed.<\/p>\n

In turn, the president of the Board of Directors (PCA) of the Port of Luanda, Alberto Bengue, considered the requalification of the TMU as a structuring investment as it will allow the increase in the merchandise processing capacity of this Port, currently set at 18 million tons per year, of which 70 to 80% are processed at the terminal.<\/p>\n

In 2020, Dubai Ports (DP) World Limited won the public tender to manage the Multipurpose Terminal at the Port of Luanda for 20 years, with obligations to pay more than one billion dollars during the exploration period.<\/p>\n

This multinational operates simultaneously general cargo and containers, with a handling capacity of 2.6 million tons per year.<\/p>\n

DP World is a multinational logistics company based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, specializing in cargo logistics, port terminal operations, maritime services and free trade zones, with 150 operations worldwide.<\/p>\n

The exploration project is supported by an investment plan of over 250 million USD to be carried out over the 20 years of the concession, of which more than 70% will be made using national incorporation.<\/p>\n

The investment plan foresees the rehabilitation of the physical infrastructure of the Multipurpose Terminal (TMU) pier, the carrying out of civil works necessary to implement a new TMU plant plan, with an additional advantage being the maintenance of jobs for the staff assigned. to the terminal.<\/p>\n

The TMU of the Port of Luanda is a port infrastructure dedicated to the simultaneous operation of general cargo and containers, having a pier of 610 meters, with a depth of 12.5 meters, having an area of \u200b\u200b181,070 square meters with capacity for movement of 2.6 million tons annually.<\/p>\n
