Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The President of the Council of Ministers (CM) of SADC, Te\u0301te Anto\u0301nio, asked, this Wednesday, in Luanda, the Member States to approve the revised budget of the organization’s Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (SAMIRDC), having taking into account the electoral process taking place in that country next December.<\/b><\/p>\n

At the opening of the CM’s Extraordinary Meeting, in virtual format, the Angolan Minister of Foreign Affairs said that everyone must be sensitive, as peace, security and political stability represent the region’s main gains.<\/p>\n

The meeting, he recalled, follows the CM’s decision, met in August in Luanda, which directed the secretariat to re-evaluate and review the budget of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Mission in the DRC, reaffirmed by the Summit of Heads of State and Government, in the same city.<\/p>\n

In this context, he highlighted all the preparatory work carried out by the various SADC structures, namely the Defense Sub-committee, the Finance Sub-committee, as well as the Finance Committee and Senior Officials whose meeting took place on Tuesday, 26 September, in preparation for the aforementioned meeting.<\/p>\n

According to the source, faced with the threat of armed groups proliferating in the Eastern Region of the DRC, with particular emphasis on the resurgence of actions perpetrated by the M23, the region took the firm decision to deploy the SADC Standby Force, until the 30th of September 2023.<\/p>\n

This is intended, he said, to support pacification and security efforts in that area of \u200b\u200bthe country, a decision taken during the “Summit of the SADC Troika and the Troika of the Organ plus the Contributing Countries with Personnel”, held in May of the year in course in Namibia.<\/p>\n

He congratulated Zimbabwe on the holding of the recent elections, hoping that the legislative elections in the Kingdom of Eswatini, on September 29, will take place in an environment of peace and tranquility, in harmony with the Constitution, principles and guidelines that govern the community.<\/p>\n

“In conclusion, I would like to highlight the presence of all Member States participating in this meeting, hoping that it can reach the necessary consensus and concrete recommendations for the deployment of the SADC Standby Force, which should be presented to the Summit of SADC Heads of State and Government”, he concluded.<\/p>\n
