Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Vice-President of the Republic, Esperanc\u0327a da Costa, reaffirmed, this Thursday, the Executive’s commitment to improving the quality of the Higher Education subsystem, placing it at the service of inclusion, innovation and sustainable development.<\/b><\/p>\n

When speaking at the solemn opening ceremony of the 2023\/2024 Academic Year, Esperanc\u0327a da Costa said it was necessary to pave the way for a future where knowledge is, in fact, the transformative force to face contemporary challenges, which require solutions and a great adaptation capacity of all actors in the Higher Education subsystem.<\/p>\n

The Vice-President of the Republic highlighted, on the occasion, the progress that the country has made in terms of expansion and access to Higher Education in the last two decades.<\/p>\n

In this regard, he defended the need to convert this expansion into the training of more qualified professionals capable of meeting the demands of current times.<\/p>\n

Among the actions planned for the five-year period (2023-2027), the Vice-President of the Republic highlighted the increase and improvement of infrastructure, access to Higher Education, improving the training offer and valuing gender equity, investment in Higher Institutes of Educational Sciences (ISCED) and Higher Pedagogical Schools.<\/p>\n

In implementing these actions, which will count on resources from the OGE and financial support from partners such as the European Union, World Bank, Global Partnership for Education and the African Development Bank, the promotion of digital transformation in institutions and consolidation of the Higher Education quality assurance system.<\/p>\n

The Vice-President of the Republic pointed out that, if, on the one hand, it is necessary to improve the training offer and access to Higher Education, on the other, “it is critical to promote the strengthening of skills and the qualitative differentiation of teaching staff, scientific researchers and non-teaching staff”.<\/p>\n

According to Esperanc\u0327a da Costa, for the country’s reality, improving the training offer should focus, above all, on the creation of new STEAM courses (sciences, technologies, engineering, arts and mathematics).<\/p>\n

He emphasized that investment should not only focus on human capital, but also on strengthening and modernizing infrastructure, noting, in this regard, that a set of actions are underway that reveal the Executive’s commitment to the permanent search for quality.<\/p>\n

In the curricular field, the Vice-Presidents of the Republic highlighted the introduction of five (5) new doctoral courses, nine (9) master’s degrees and four (4) specialization courses, with funding of 1.8 million euros.<\/p>\n

He informed that the courses will benefit the Agostinho Neto University (Luanda), the Jose\u0301 Eduardo dos Santos University (Huambo), the Katyavala Bwila University (Benguela), as well as the ISCED in Cuanza Sul and Hui\u0301la.<\/p>\n

The ceremony, which took place at the Academy of Social Sciences (ACITE), in Kilamba Centrality, was marked with the signing of the terms of commitment for the postgraduate courses approved in the Second Notice of the UNI.AO Program, with funding from the European Union worth 1.2 million euros.<\/p>\n

13 new specialization courses were approved in priority sectors and 10 Public and Private Higher Education Institutions were selected from six (6) provinces, namely Hui\u0301la, Luanda, Malange, Benguela, Namibe and Cuanza Sul.<\/p>\n

The courses are scheduled to start at the beginning of 2024.<\/p>\n

The start of classes in Higher Education is scheduled for Monday, October 2nd, which includes a calendar of 42 academic weeks, spread over two semesters of 21 weeks each, and nine weeks of preparation, scheduled to end in July of next year .<\/p>\n

A total of 230,252 places are available for the current academic year across the country for public and private institutions.<\/p>\n
