Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Different organizations in Angolan society expressed, this Friday, their dismay at the physical death, due to illness, of the Angolan nationalist, politician and diplomat Hermi\u0301nio Esco\u0301rcio, which occurred in South Africa, at the age of 87.<\/b><\/p>\n

The Political Bureau of the MPLA Central Committee says, in a statement, that it learned, with deep resignation, of the death of Hermi\u0301nio Joaquim Esco\u0301rcio, a historic activist and leader of this political party.<\/p>\n

It describes him as an unavoidable figure of Angolan nationalism, distinguished by his sense of discipline, rigor and political-party obedience, as well as his high knowledge of the historical-revolutionary path of Angola and the party.<\/p>\n

The note also highlights his “convinced militancy and deep dedication to defending the causes and ideals of the MPLA”, having achieved, on his own merit, the status of member of the party’s Central Committee, elected at the Inter-Regional Conference held in September 1974, in Brazzaville.<\/p>\n

He also highlights his role as coordinator of the reception and installation committee of the First MPLA Delegation, arriving in Luanda on November 8, 1974, as a member of the African National League and his integration into the delegation that participated in the negotiations of the Lunhamege Agreements with the Portuguese government.<\/p>\n

\u201cKnown as an excellent diplomat and with a refined human profile, Hermi\u0301nio Esco\u0301rcio represented the Angolan State as ambassador to Germany, Egypt, Algeria and Argentina\u201d, adds the statement.<\/p>\n

With strong sporting inclinations, he was one of the main mentors in the founding of Atle\u0301tico Petro\u0301leo de Luanda, having been Honorary President of the Club until the date of his death.<\/p>\n

On another note, the provincial government of Luanda states that it was with deep pain and consternation that it learned of the physical passing of Hermi\u0301nio Joaquim Esco\u0301rcio.<\/p>\n

Highlighting him as one of the noble figures in our history as a Nation, he addressed his most sincere feelings of condolence to the bereaved family, the Angolan people in general and the diplomatic corps in particular, for this loss that leaves us all in mourning.<\/p>\n

In another note that also had access to, this one coming from the Angolan Embassy in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), highlights that Hermi\u0301nio Joaquim Esco\u0301rcio was a nationalist and politician with a career associated with ideals of freedom, democracy and patriotism.<\/p>\n

It also highlights his selflessness and conviction that the fight to achieve Angola’s Independence was worth it.<\/p>\n

88 years old, Herminio Esco\u0301rcio was director of the Cabinet of the first President of Angola, Anto\u0301nio Agostinho Neto, between 1975 and 1979, having also held the position of ambassador of Angola in several countries, including Argentina, Germany, Austria , Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Tunisia and the United Arab Emirates.<\/p>\n

Hermi\u0301nio Joaquim Esco\u0301rcio, born in Lobito, province of Benguela, graduated in Economic Studies, Administration and Public Relations.<\/p>\n

He carried out activities belonging to the MPLA in hiding and participated in the National Liberation process since 1958.<\/p>\n

He was a political prisoner, tried and convicted by a special military court under the imposition of the Portuguese Political Police (PIDE) from 1963 to 1974. He was part of the MPLA delegation that negotiated the truce with the Portuguese in the hills of Liamege, in the province of Moxico.<\/p>\n
