Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Pre-Olympic women’s handball tournament will be held in Angola in October, with the aim of qualifying for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in France.<\/b><\/p>\n

According to the president of the Angolan Handball Federation (FAAND), Jose\u0301 do Amaral “Maninho”, Angola will, however, have difficulty achieving this objective due to its status as the most titled on the continent.<\/p>\n

“Our interest in organizing the competition is clearly to count on the public’s support to qualify for the Olympic Games,” he said, adding that Angola is always a target.<\/p>\n

In a major interview Thursday, to be published soon in full, in which he addressed the state of the sport in the country, Maninho said that the responsibility for qualification is greater as handball is a worthy representative of Angola at the event.<\/p>\n

“Women’s handball is the collective sport with the highest participation in the Olympic Games, and we are doing everything we can to maintain this tradition”, he reiterated.<\/p>\n

During the interview in which, among other topics, he also spoke about mass programs and annual financial commitments, he mentioned that preparation for the Pre-Olympics began in 2022, after approval of the candidacy by the CAHB.<\/p>\n

The competition will be held at Kilamba’s Multiu\u0301sos pavilion, from the 11th to the 14th of October, with the presence, in addition to Angola, of Cameroon, Congo and Senegal.<\/p>\n

The Angolan women are looking for their eighth consecutive presence, after their debut in Atlanta ’96.<\/p>\n

The last participation in the Olympic Games took place in the “Tokyo`2021” edition (Japan), where it finished in 10th place ahead of Brazil and Japan, out of a total of twelve teams.<\/p>\n
