Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Religious leaders and members of the Angolan community residing in Spain participated this Saturday in a round table on the life and work of Anto\u0301nio Agostinho Neto, within the scope of the National Hero’s Days.<\/b><\/p>\n

The activity, which marked the end of the days in the Kingdom of Spain, brought together more than 60 people, including religious leaders, members of the Angolan community and students.<\/p>\n

On the occasion, the minister advisor, Anto\u0301nio Cristo\u0301va\u0303o, highlighted Neto as a unique figure in the history of Angola and a visionary in the fight for independence and justice.<\/p>\n

\u201cAgostinho Neto not only led our nation to freedom and independence, but also left a legacy of poetry that transcends borders. His work echoes humanity\u2019s deepest feelings and the incessant search for a better world,\u201d said the diplomat.<\/p>\n

According to Anto\u0301nio Cristo\u0301va\u0303o, Agostinho Neto is remembered not only as the country’s first President, but also as a poet and revolutionary leader, whose life and work had a lasting impact on the nation and beyond.<\/p>\n

\u201cBorn in 1922, Neto grew up in a colonized Angola marked by oppression, repression and inequality\u201d, he reinforced.<\/p>\n

Anto\u0301nio Cristo\u0301va\u0303o recalled that his journey began as a medical student in Coimbra, Portugal, where he was strongly influenced by African liberation movements and socialist ideas.<\/p>\n

\u201cNeto emerged as a talented poet and political activist, using his writing to express the struggle of the Angolan people against colonial oppression. His words were powerful, inciting resistance and hope in equal measure. In his poems he captured the anguish of an oppressed people, but also the unbreakable determination to achieve freedom\u201d, he reinforced.<\/p>\n

The minister advisor added that Neto’s most significant contribution to the country’s history was his leadership in the MPLA, stressing that his vision was clear: \u201che wanted a free, fair and prosperous Angola for all the children of the country\u201d.<\/p>\n

In addition to his political achievements, he said, Neto’s legacy lives on through his timeless poetry. \u201cHis writings continue to inspire generations, serving as a reminder of the struggles of the past and the importance of freedom and equality. Today, we celebrate not just the man, but the resilient spirit that inspires generations,\u201d he asserted.<\/p>\n

Anto\u0301nio Cristo\u0301va\u0303o expressed the hope that the meeting would allow us to better understand Neto’s lasting influence and how his message of unity, freedom and hope continues to resonate in the hearts and minds of Angolans.<\/p>\n

Also within the scope of the National Hero’s Day days and celebrations, a photographic exhibition portraying the life and work of Anto\u0301nio Agostinho Neto is on view at the premises of the Angolan Embassy in Spain, until the end of October.<\/p>\n
