New green spaces are also emerging. Walkways and curbs are also being restored, with a view to providing greater comfort, tranquility and safety for residents and visitors.

Road works

Work is also underway in the main municipality of the province of Huambo to extend 148 kilometers of roads, asphalting secondary and tertiary roads, in some arteries and peripheral neighborhoods. All these projects and the construction of new infrastructures are creating a feeling of confidence among the city’s inhabitants.

The Municipal Administration also has, in its action schedule, the recovery of the city and the creation of more basic social and leisure infrastructures to make it more beautiful and attractive, thus creating a more decent habitable environment. to populations.

Health Gains

With regard to the Health sector, in just under five years, the main municipality of Huambo recorded remarkable growth, with the increase and improvement of hospital care services for the population. The idea, according to the municipal director of Health, Miguel Balaca, is to extend these services to all inhabitants of the region, which is growing considerably.

When speaking, the person in charge highlighted that in the past, the health network was provided by 59 units and now 64 are in operation, including two reference hospitals, posts and health centers. Miguel Balaca highlighted that, as part of the program to increase and improve basic social services, a Pediatric Hospital is being built in the upper part of the city, with the foundation stone being laid in February.

The completion of the aforementioned work, covering four floors, will allow the reduction of the flow and pressure that the General Hospital has experienced in recent times. He also assured that the Provincial Government will continue to invest in infrastructure for the sector, with a view to improving medical and medication assistance for citizens.

In addition to the wards, the future Huambo Pediatric Hospital will have four blocks and three delivery rooms. Emergency services, physiotherapy, imaging, endoscopy, diagnostics in the areas of X-ray, fluoroscopy, mammography, computed tomography and other services will also be part of the infrastructure, which will have an inpatient capacity of 200 beds.

The hospital unit included in the Public Investment Program is budgeted at US$136,534,371.40, with training expected to be added to the medical assistance component. According to the head of the sector, the main municipality of Huambo controls 37 doctors, a thousand nurses and 185 therapeutic technicians.

Hotel chain

The city of Huambo also offers visitors other attractions, such as gardens, green spaces and places of economic and social interest.

The head of the Tourism and Hospitality department, Anilson Ernesto, said that the provincial government is working to promote tourism. “It is from this perspective that the Provincial Government designed the tourism promotion policy to meet the demand that is growing day after day in the city”, he assured.

He mentioned that the current hotel network is far below the needs, as in recent years the city of Huambo has been a stop for many tourists and people looking to spend different moments, especially on weekends.

For this reason, the Government of Huambo launched a challenge to all interested investors to make their contribution to strengthening the sector. “The needs are evident and need no comment. Our province really needs more leisure spaces and hotels and to improve the provision of services”, acknowledged the head of Tourism in Huambo.

……………………………………………. ………

“CITY LIFE”

Celebration capicua and everyone for Huambo

Sérgio V. Dias |Huambo

At a time when the development and diversification of the economy continue to be terms in vogue, Huambo, capital of the province of the same name and which marked, yesterday, 111 years since its institutionalization as a city, through the Ordinance 1040, by the then governor-general of the overseas province of Angola, Norton de Matos, follows this perspective.

A day of celebration for the children of this martyred city, once called New Lisbon, in which, on each occasion, a “different tomorrow” is glimpsed. A capicua festival in which everyone is focused on Huambo, considered a “paradise nestled in the center of Angola ”.

Each of the children of the land and others who find themselves there do their part daily to make Huambo aggrandizement. Hence I would like to paraphrase the duo Grande Nico and Tiagão, who represent the province of Huambo at this year’s Top dos Mais Queridos Gala, the great national music competition scheduled for October 5th, when they sing “Linga upangue wove”, which in Portuguese means say “do your job”.

Each of us, as citizens, has the obligation to do and give our best for the capital of Huambo. This, regardless of religious belief, race or party color. As the renowned musicians Grande Nico and Tiagão also say, “Nda o kupapata linga upangue wove. Nda o security akome linga upangue wove amangjangue. Ukatambolole vana vakwete ale”.

Translating the chorus of the Umbundu song entitled “Linga upangue wove” into the language of Camões, the greatest exponent of Lusophony, it means “If you are ‘kupapata’, do your job. If you’re a security guard, do your job my brother. He doesn’t follow those who already have some assets.” It makes clear the idea and the spirit of mission that each of us must exercise in our daily lives, in favor of the growth of this beautiful city of Huambo, which reached, on the 21st, 111 years of existence.

A moment that must be lived with joy and pride by the children of this land of welcoming and humble people, who every day, whether in the countryside or in large urban centers, give their best for the growth of Huambo.

The same region whose origins date back to the history of the legendary hunter Wambu Kalunga, who left the lands of Seles, in Cuanza-Sul, demonstrated an example of bravery and resilience, by heroically slaughtering an elephant near the Cunhoñgamua river, next to the Ganda La stones. Kawe, in the neighboring municipality of Caála.

Huambo, as such, is full of interesting stories ranging from its neighborhoods, to the customs of its people, to gastronomy and other characteristic features of the region.

And these stories, of course, extend to its historic neighborhoods, such as Canhe, Benfica, Macolocolo, São José, São João, Aviação, Calomanda and many others that make up this beautiful corner located right in the center of Angola.

Therefore, a big congratulations to Huambo on this capicua festival and which is expected to bring a lot of benefits to his children.

……………………………………………. …………

Good Winds Festivals

Estácio Camassete, |Huambo

The secular Bons Ventos festival (“Eyele lyo fela iwa” in Umbundu) is a traditional practice carried out since ancient times, as part of the festivities in the city of Huambo. During the festival, the blessing of the ancestors is invoked , for the success of the activities that take place in the region during the year.

As a general rule, this festival is held during the same period as those in the city of Huambo, that is, on the 19th and 20th of September, in the large ombala of the Kingdom of Huambo. The anniversary also serves to give thanks for the activities carried out during the same period.

The rituals of the ceremony serve to thank the “Supreme Being” for the rain that falls regularly every month, for the successful harvest of the agricultural campaign, for the health of the community throughout the year, for the fertility rate and to envisage the same luck in the future. next year.

The king of Huambo, Artur Moço, said that during the 12 months of the year there are a lot of good and bad things that happen. Therefore, he says it is necessary to be grateful for the success and invoke new luck so that nothing strange happens in the community and complicates people’s lives. “This ritual cannot fail in any year, under penalty of a certain unpleasant situation occurring within families. It is the guarantor of society’s fortunes”, he highlighted.

According to the king of Huambo, there are certain products that cannot be missing from this ceremony. Also noteworthy is the shedding of blood from a large animal. One or more cattle and an undetermined number of pigs, goats and chickens are killed. Traditional drinks such as “owalende”, “otchisangua” (quissângua), “otchimbombo” (quimbombo) and others typical of the area, as well as wine and beer, to cheer up, calm and please the spirits of the ancestors and ensure more blessings.

The animals planned for this activity are slaughtered live and quartered into pieces without any seasoning, just salt. They are then roasted and distributed to everyone present with or without a companion and every individual who tastes that meat is a sign that they were at the party. In addition to meat and drink, the festival never lacks white cornmeal, known as “omemba”, whose funge will accompany the roasted meat. The festival is marked by several moments, where dances such as “onhatcha”, “okatita ”, “sawaya” and others are shown to the sound of batuque, with the otchingadji (clown) as the main figure.

The Huambo ombala, located in Samissasa, is considered the capital of the Kingdom’s traditional power, in the vicinity of Quissala, where the market with the same name is located, considered the ancient capital of the Central Plateau.

jornaldeangola

For More News And Analysis About Angola Follow Africa-Press

Africa-Press – Angola.
