Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The ambassador of the United States of America (USA) to Angola, Tulinabo Mushingi, highlighted this Thursday, in Luanda, Angola’s role in stabilizing the Great Lakes Region and the Southern African Development Community (SADC) .<\/b><\/p>\n

In an exclusive interview, the full text of which will be published in the coming days, the diplomat said that the efforts of the Angolan President, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, are essential for maintaining peace and security in Central Africa, the Great Lakes region and SADC.<\/p>\n

President Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o was distinguished, in May of this year, with the title of Champion of Peace and Reconciliation, by the African Union (AU). The title is the result of the efforts that Angola has been making at the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (CIRGL), in the search for peace, dialogue and stability in several countries on the African continent.<\/p>\n

According to the ambassador, Angola, in particular, and African countries, in general, can continue to count on the support and partnership of the United States of America to face current challenges.<\/p>\n

During the interview, he also spoke about cooperation between Angola and the USA, highlighting investments in the renewable energy sector, currently valued at USD 900 million.<\/p>\n

He also highlighted the investments in the construction of road infrastructure (metallic bridges), valued at USD 360 million, and the USD 250 million made available by a consortium for the development of the Lobito Corridor, Benguela province.<\/p>\n

In another area, Tulinabo Mushingi expressed satisfaction with the results achieved by Angola within the framework of economic reforms, and added that the US will continue to work to attract investors to the Angolan market.<\/p>\n

The diplomat also highlighted the efforts of the Angolan Executive aimed at combating corruption, strengthening transparency and good governance, and said they were clear signs of improving the living conditions of Angolans, despite recognizing that there is still a long way to go.<\/p>\n

Tulinabo Mushingi pointed out health, security, fishing, good governance, two-way exchange, renewable energy, among others, as priority areas for strategic cooperation with Angola.<\/p>\n

In the ambassador’s view, with American investments, we seek to guarantee the improvement of the conditions of Angolans, share the US experience and promote the basic principles of good governance (guaranteeing human rights, freedom of the press and promoting women’s empowerment and young people).<\/p>\n

Angola and the United States of America established formal diplomatic relations in 1993.<\/p>\n

Angola is the US’s third largest trading partner in Sub-Saharan Africa, mainly due to oil exports. The two countries cooperate in several areas, with emphasis on trade, finance, energy, manufacturing, security, health and justice.<\/p>\n

Trade between Angola and the United States of America reached, until November 2019, around 1.4 billion dollars.<\/p>\n
