Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The inspector general of National Defense, Former Combatants and Veterans of the Fatherland, general Gouveia de Sa\u0301 Miranda, said Friday, in Luanda, that the armed forces have the role of maintaining national sovereignty and the territorial integrity of countries, so it should not be neglected.<\/b><\/p>\n

\u201cIn the architecture of States, the Armed Forces always play a prominent role that should never be neglected, due to their determining role in maintaining the territorial integrity of countries\u201d, he advocated.<\/p>\n

Gouveia de Sa\u0301 Miranda was speaking during the closing ceremony of the Nguizani-Logex exercise, of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), held at the Escola Superior de Guerra, located in the municipality of Kilamba Kiaxi.<\/p>\n

The inspector general recalled that, in times of peace, they have the opportunity to adjust their numbers to the new realities of the absence of a real identified enemy, being able to reorganize, modernize, with the best weapons in the world, military technique and equipment.<\/p>\n

Regarding the current context, Gouveia de Sa\u0301 Miranda said that the mission of the Armed Forces is to defend the highest interests of States, in the spirit of peace, stability and ensuring development and progress.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am of the opinion that missions require adequate preparation, capable of making them correspond directly with the impositions of the terrain, the environment and other likely implications of which we can highlight those of a logistical nature\u201d, he highlighted.<\/p>\n

In this sense, he continued, there is an increasing need to improve the decision-making process, quickly bringing together all the elements favorable to carrying out such actions.<\/p>\n

He recognized the need, in practice, to properly apply the principles of coherence and flexibility and save resources, according to the context presented.<\/p>\n

In turn, the Chief of Staff for SADC Standby Force Planning, Brigadier Raymond Ndwandwe, valued the good relations forged during Logex, in the interests of the SADC region.<\/p>\n

He also said that, by making efforts to improve the complete operational capacity of the Forces, in this case through Exercise Nguizani-Logex, the effects are expected to contribute to a greater capacity for conflict resolution in the region.<\/p>\n

For his part, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Angola, Tete\u0301 Anto\u0301nio, acknowledged that the regular holding of SADC military exercises has served to improve the regional capacity to ensure peace and security in Africa.<\/p>\n

The official added that this is not only to maintain security and peace in the region and continent, but also to face other challenges such as natural calamities and humanitarian aid in which they can react.<\/p>\n

He assured that these activities demonstrate the regional capacity to assume its responsibilities with regard to conflicts on the continent.<\/p>\n

A total of 462 elements participated in this exercise, under the motto “Africa for peace and prosperity”, 338 military, 54 police and 70 civilians.<\/p>\n

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) is made up of 16 member states, namely Angola, Botswana, Comoros, Democratic Republic of Congo, eSwatini, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.<\/p>\n

The organization was founded on August 17, 1992. Based in Gaberone, Botswana, its emergence resulted from a long process of consultation with leaders in the region.<\/p>\n

The president of the Republic of Angola, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, assumed, last August, in Luanda, the rotating presidency of SADC.<\/p>\n
