Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Inspector General of National Defense, General Gouveia de Sa\u0301 Miranda, said, Friday, in Luanda, that the Armed Forces must continue to strengthen cooperation ties, within the framework of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), as well as in the African Union (AU).<\/b><\/p>\n

Gouveia de Sa\u0301 Miranda, who spoke at the end of Exercise Nguizani Logex\/2023, held between September 25th and October 6th, under the motto “Africa for peace and prosperity”, highlighted that military exercises could contribute to mitigating the factors of instability still prevailing in Africa.<\/p>\n

Therefore, he considered the execution of the SADC exercise “positive and satisfactory”, which saw the participation of 462 personnel, 338 military, 54 police and 70 civilians assigned to the 16 countries of the African regional organization.<\/p>\n

“We are very pleased to have the opportunity to welcome the different delegations of the SADC Armed Forces, for common reinforcement”, he rejoiced, leaving the door open for future exercises within the scope of strengthening and sustainability of the logistics system .<\/p>\n

“We want to act efficiently in the different stages and scenarios for the projection of the Community’s Armed Forces, in carrying out conflict prevention, peacekeeping and humanitarian aid missions, in particular, at the level of SADC, where our countries are located\u201d , stated Gouveia de Sa\u0301 Miranda.<\/p>\n

In the “architecture” of States, the general said, the Armed Forces always play a prominent role, which should never be neglected, highlighting, in view of this, the beginnings of independence: “The Armed Forces were decisive in maintaining national sovereignty and of the territorial integrity of countries\u201d.<\/p>\n

Still in this regard, Gouveia de Sa\u0301 Miranda highlighted that, in times of peace, “the Armed Forces have the opportunity to adjust their numbers to the new reality of the absence of a real identified enemy”, as well as to “organize and modernize” with what there is the best in the world in weapons, techniques and military equipment.<\/p>\n

The inspector general of National Defense also said that it was not a coincidence that the Logex military exercises took place after the 43rd SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government, in the country, last August.<\/p>\n

“An event that will certainly further strengthen relations of friendship and cooperation, through a more dynamic and active community in responding to the various events of a political, economic, military and social nature, which have been occurring globally”, highlighted Gouveia by Sa\u0301 Miranda.<\/p>\n

Ensuring prosperity and security in the region<\/p>\n

The representative of the SADC Secretariat, Raymond Ndwandwe, stressed that the logistical exercises reflected the commitment and mutual promise of cooperation, prosperity and security in the region. In this regard, he explained that he values \u200b\u200bthe \u201cgood relations\u201d forged during Logex between the participating nations.<\/p>\n

Raymond Ndwandwe highlighted that, by “making efforts to improve the complete operational capacity” of the SADC Standby Force, “through the conduct of Nguizani exercises”, the “net effects of the gains obtained” are expected, and can subsequently contribute for greater conflict resolution competence in the region and \u201cacross the entire African continent\u201d.<\/p>\n

Despite the challenges faced during the exercises, the representative of the SADC Secretariat believes that lessons were learned throughout the process: “We sincerely hope that after the exercises, it will be possible to identify the gaps and deficiencies that must be addressed and improved so that the SADC Standby Force mission is ready and continues to be a viable part of the region\u2019s conflict resolution architecture.\u201d<\/p>\n
