Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>An Angolan delegation, led by the Minister of Finance, Vera Daves, has been participating since this Monday in joint high-level annual meetings of the World Bank (WB) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), in Marrakesh (Morocco).<\/b><\/p>\n

The Angolan delegation includes the Minister of Economy and Planning, Ma\u0301rio Caetano Joa\u0303o, and the governor of the National Bank of Angola (BNA), Manuel Dias.<\/p>\n

At the meetings, which mark the return to Africa, after the meetings in Kenya in 1973, the IMF and the WB are expected to present a downward review of growth for the continent, according to the Jornal de Angola publication.<\/p>\n

The World Bank has already presented its growth estimate for the region, which slows to 2.5% this year, after growth of 4.8% in 2021 and 3.8% last year.<\/p>\n

At this meeting, the main novelty for the two global financial institutions could be the distribution of quotas, modified in favor of low-income or emerging countries, which would increase their possibilities of taking out larger loans, writes the French news agency, France -Presse (AFP), stressing that the discussions are unlikely to have practical results next week.<\/p>\n

Monday (09), the day was marked by a session on African businesswomen and another that focuses on Guinea-Bissau and how to improve the management of public servants’ expenses, through the use of \u201cblockchain\u201d, that is, a database of data that connects multiple departments and is accessible in real time.<\/p>\n

Likewise, the report on the World Economic Perspectives was launched, as well as the presentation of the document on Global Financial Stability and the fight against poverty.<\/p>\n

For Tuesday, Guinea-Bissau will again be under analysis, with a debate on the digitalization of public administration management in that African country.<\/p>\n

It is also reserved for meetings that will last until next Friday, the official opening of the World Bank Meetings, with a press conference by President Ajay Banga, and there will also be a debate on over-indebtedness in the most disadvantaged countries.<\/p>\n

Debt issues will also be addressed, with a debate that, in addition to the leaders of the IMF and the WB, will also have the presence of the Minister of Finance of Zambia, the first African country to enter into financial default following the pandemic and to request, more than two years ago, a debt restructuring, in a process that is still ongoing.<\/p>\n

On Friday, the last day of the event, it will be marked by the presentation of regional reports on European and African economies, and the Angolan Finance Minister will participate in a debate on building economic resilience and the challenges for emerging markets.<\/p>\n
