Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The president of the Angolan Cycling Federation (FACI), Cremilde Rangel, assured Thursday, that the necessary conditions are created to hold, from Saturday (14), the II edition of the Volta Angola in road cycling .<\/b><\/p>\n

Cremilde Rangel confirmed the fact to the press, in Huambo, when speaking about the preparations for the competition, which resumes eight years after the first edition, in 2015.<\/p>\n

On the occasion, he said that all the necessary conditions were prepared, both in terms of security and in terms of logistics and team accommodation, for the successful completion of the race, from the beginning, in the province of Huambo, to the continuation in the other regions of the country. country.<\/p>\n

He said that holding the second edition of Volta Angola constitutes a very great achievement, after a long period of interregnum, due to lack of money and also due to Covid-19.<\/p>\n

He added that the weight of the sporting event has to do, above all, with the fact that it pays homage to a great figure in Angolan cycling and the world in general.<\/p>\n

The current edition, which is called Volta Angola Pepino, in honor of the iconic cyclist from Benguela, Alberto da Silva \u201cPepino\u201d, who died in August 2018, at the age of 95, will have the province of Huambo as its starting point.<\/p>\n

The goal of the race, passing through the provinces of Benguela, Cuanza Sul, Bengo and Zaire, ending in Luanda, will have a length of 935 kilometers of road.<\/p>\n

The event, to be played between the 14th and 22nd of this month, the period in which the honoree’s birthday is celebrated, will feature the participation of at least 10 teams, from the provinces of Bengo, Benguela, Huambo, Hui\u0301la, Luanda and Uige and other foreigners.<\/p>\n

The province of Huambo will participate with the local mix, made up of seven cyclists and two leaders, whose goal is to be among the six best.<\/p>\n

To this end, the set is prepared in detail to represent, with dignity, the province, despite the technical difficulties of bicycles.<\/p>\n

For this reason, they call for support from the local government and businesspeople.<\/p>\n

Competition stages<\/p>\n

The first stage of the Volta Angola is held on October 14th and has a five-kilometer prologue, starting in Santa Nganguela and ending in Munda, both locations in the main municipality of Huambo province.<\/p>\n

In the second stage, on October 15th, cyclists compete in a 145-kilometre long distance race, starting in Huambo and ending in Benguela.<\/p>\n

The following day, for the third, the road \u201cartists\u201d compete in a 170-kilometer long-distance race, between Lobito and Sumbe.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, October 17th, the caravan will cover 180 kilometers, the longest distance of the competition, counting towards the fourth stage, starting from Porto do Amboim (Cuanza Sul) to Parque da Quic\u0327ama.<\/p>\n

On the 18th, the 2nd round Angola reserves a general break, so that the following day the Individual Time Trial (CRI) can be contested, over a distance of 20 kilometers.<\/p>\n

The sixth will be 145 kilometers long, starting in Soyo and arriving in Nzeto, in the province of Zaire, and on the 21st, the seventh will be held, covering 170 kilometers, between Nzeto and Caxito, connecting the provinces of Zaire and Bengo.<\/p>\n

The last one, scheduled for the 22nd, reserves the 100 kilometer race, starting in Bengo and arriving in Luanda, at Largo 1o de Maio, with a closed circuit.<\/p>\n

The first edition had as its starting point the province of Bie\u0301 and Huambo at the end of the first stage, on a 152-kilometer road route .<\/p>\n
