Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Fishermen organized in cooperatives in the commune of Naulila, municipality of Ombadja, province of Cunene, benefited this Saturday from various fishing artifacts such as mesh nets, hooks, life jackets, reflective vests and rubber boots, aiming to promote continental fishing.<\/b><\/p>\n

The action of the municipal administration of Ombadja, within the policies of the Integrated Program for Local Development and Combating Poverty (PIDLCP), aims to provide fishermen with the necessary tools to improve their productivity.<\/p>\n

Along this path, 15 vests and boots, seven boxes of hooks, 10 nets and 10 fishing buoys were distributed, benefiting four cooperatives.<\/p>\n

When making the delivery, the municipal director of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Gaspar Ju\u0301lio, said that the distribution of fishing equipment aims to increase fish catches, recognizing that many of them face difficulties with artifacts, to better develop the activity.<\/p>\n

The official said that the artisanal fishing sector plays an important role in the socioeconomic development of rural communities, which depend on fishing resources to guarantee self-employment and food security.<\/p>\n

He said that the promotion of fishing alongside family farming will continue to deserve attention from the government, which is why he encouraged other fishermen to group together in cooperatives.<\/p>\n

The commune of Naulila constitutes one of the main fishing areas in the province, where fishermen take advantage of the watercourses of the Cunene River to fish quimaia, catfish and bokundo which are destined for the village of Xangongo, Ondjiva, Lubango and Huambo.<\/p>\n
