Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Eight hundred and twenty-six diamond stones of various carats were seized in the municipality of Xa\u0301-muteba, Lunda Norte province, by the Criminal Investigation Service (SIC), for possession and illicit trafficking.<\/b><\/p>\n

The information was provided this Tuesday by the spokesperson for the Provincial Command of the National Police, Domingos Muanafumo, highlighting that the seizure of the diamonds resulted from a micro-operation, which aims to combat the exploitation and illicit trafficking of diamonds, minors and illegal immigration along border areas.<\/p>\n

Without revealing the number of citizens involved in the crime, the official said that the seized diamonds were handed over to the \u201cOperation Transparency\u201d Registration Committee, based in Malanje.<\/p>\n

In 2018, the Angolan State launched a program to combat illicit diamond exploration and trafficking, called \u201cOperation Transparency\u201d, which aims to combat mining hotspots in diamond regions.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, he reported that during the operation the Border Guard Police prevented the illegal entry of 655 citizens of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), accompanied by 122 children.<\/p>\n

He said that the immigrants intended to reach diamond exploration areas and the country’s capital, Luanda.<\/p>\n
