Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Secretary of State for Justice, Evaristo Solano, stated, this Wednesday, in Luanda, that economic diplomacy has created greater dynamics to attract more private foreign investment to the country.<\/b><\/p>\n

The official, who was speaking at a round table on “Institutional voluntary arbitration as a guarantee of private investment”, emphasized that economic diplomacy, implemented by the Executive, has created greater dynamics in international trade relations.<\/p>\n

He pointed out that this has been a driving factor and quite sure to attract greater foreign private investment, in particular, noting that in the context of doing business (business environment) the promotion of arbitration as an indicative method for resolving conflicts is inevitable.<\/p>\n

According to the Secretary of State, for the economic opening of Angola and the consequent multiplication of economic, commercial and industrial relations at the domestic and international market level, it is convenient and necessary to provide investors with greater security, certainty and legal predictability regarding the resolution of possible disputes.<\/p>\n

He said it was necessary to promote and encourage the use of institutionalized voluntary arbitration by the services of the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights, as a mechanism for extrajudicial dispute resolution in investments by companies associated with the American Chamber of Commerce in Angola, combined with the promotion of private investment as strategy for achieving justice in the business circle.<\/p>\n

He pointed out that the creation of the Law on Voluntary Arbitration is a clear manifestation that the Angolan Executive sees this mechanism as a guarantee to investors, allowing its authors to choose a better way to resolve their disputes.<\/p>\n

Evaristo Solano recalled that to guarantee greater legal protection for national and foreign investors, the Angolan State adhered to the New York Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitrary Awards and the Convention for the Settlement of Disputes Relating to Investments between States and Nationals of other States , called (ICSID Convention).<\/p>\n

On the other hand, the president of the American Chamber of Commerce in Angola, Pedro Godinho, said that any company that aims to internationalize its investments seeks regions of the world where its invested capital is assured with a level of return and with minimal risks.<\/p>\n

He emphasized that this is only possible in those geographies that offer a good business climate, for those in Angola political stability is a fact and who are looking for economic stability.<\/p>\n

Among the factors that offer a good business environment, he highlighted a good justice system, good energy infrastructure, telecommunications and access to the country.<\/p>\n

In relation to this last assumption, he highlighted the fact that the Angolan Government has allowed, through a Decree, citizens from 90 countries around the world to have access to the country without requiring a visa.<\/p>\n

The event was promoted by the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights, in partnership with the American Chamber of Commerce in Angola (AmCham-Angola) and the Center for Extrajudicial Dispute Resolution (CREL).<\/p>\n

The American Chamber of Commerce in Angola (AmCham-Angola) is affiliated with the US Chamber of Commerce, the largest business organization in the world, founded in 1912. Today it represents the interests of more than three million American companies around the world.<\/p>\n
