Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The President of the Republic, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, arrived this Saturday in Luanda, coming from Nairobi, Kenya, where he completed an official two-day visit, at the invitation of his Kenyan counterpart, William Ruto.<\/b><\/p>\n

At 4 de Fevereiro International Airport, the Head of State, accompanied by the First Lady, Ana Dias Lourenc\u0327o, received welcome greetings from the Vice President of the Republic, Esperanc\u0327a da Costa, and assistants from the Executive Branch.<\/p>\n

In compliance with the visit’s agenda, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o met with William Ruto, with whom he discussed issues of bilateral interest, with emphasis on strengthening economic cooperation between the two countries.<\/p>\n

Following this, the Statesmen witnessed the signing of 11 legal instruments, to strengthen cooperation in the fields of health, agriculture, environment, mineral resources, oil and gas, tourism, telecommunications, Information Technologies and social communication, transport and maritime cooperation, commerce and industry, youth, among others.<\/p>\n

It is also part of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Vena\u0302ncio de Moura Diplomatic Academy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Angola and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kenya.<\/p>\n

Cooperation between the two countries will also be supported by the Memorandum of Understanding between the National School of Administration and Public Policy (ENAPP) and the Kenya Government School in the Field of Capacity Development in the Public Service.<\/p>\n

Before leaving Kenya, the Angolan Head of State went to the Mausoleum of Jomo Kenyatta, the first President of Kenya, to pay tribute to the late Statesman.<\/p>\n

The friendly relationship between the two peoples dates back to the years of the struggle for Angolan independence, when the then President of the Republic of Kenya, Jomo Kenyatta, brought together at the same table, in 1975, the leaders of the Angolan liberation movements, to align a common vision about their liberation.<\/p>\n

But cooperation, in the broadest sense of the word, gained momentum in 2010, when Kenya Airways began flying to Luanda, under an agreement in the air transport sector, signed a year later, that is, in 2011.<\/p>\n

In 2014, Angola and Kenya signed four agreements that reinforced bilateral cooperation, namely the general agreement on Economic, Scientific, Technical and Cultural Cooperation; the Memorandum of Understanding on Political Consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Angola and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kenya; the Agreement on the Creation of the Bilateral Commission; the Agreement for the Operation of Air Services between and beyond the respective territories, in the field of transport.<\/p>\n
