Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The president of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (UIP), Duarte Pacheco, praised, this Monday, in Luanda, the experience of the Angolan Government in achieving effective peace in the country, after long years of internal conflict, and appealed to other States in the world to follow Angola’s example.<\/b><\/p>\n

\u201cI would like to highlight your example. It was possible to overcome the conflict and be available to live in peace, through this path of development, and others to follow your example\u201d, she stated.<\/p>\n

Duarte Pacheco, who was speaking at the press conference for the presentation of the 147th General Assembly of the IPU, highlighted the importance of an event of great magnitude, entirely aimed at the culture of peace, taking place in a country that has experienced war, especially in a at a time when there are so many conflicts in the world.<\/p>\n

He called, however, for the commitment of delegates and their respective parliaments to strengthen the culture of dialogue and tolerance so that peace can be a reality throughout the world.<\/p>\n

According to the leader of the IPU, at this time when there are so many conflicts in the world, there is an urgent need for deputies from all countries in the world to sit down to talk about peace processes\u201d.<\/p>\n

In another part of his explanation, Duarte Pacheco praised the level of organization and hospitality of the Angolan authorities, and expressed his conviction in the success of the event.<\/p>\n

He mentioned that the presence of the UIP management and consequent holding of the assembly corresponds to an invitation from the Angolan authorities, the President of the Republic and the president of the National Assembly.<\/p>\n

During the conference, in which the institution’s secretary general, Martin Chungon, also spoke, it was announced that 1,300 participants were present, representing 130 countries, including more than 50 presidents of Parliaments.<\/p>\n

Running until the 27th, the 147th General Assembly of the IPU has a wide agenda and debates on current international hot topics, with emphasis on the culture of promoting peace and democracy.<\/p>\n

The meeting will analyze, among others, topics such as partnerships for climate action, promoting access to affordable green energy, ensuring innovation, responsibility and equity, as well as preparations for the parliamentary meeting of the United Nations Conference on Change Climate Change (COP28), scheduled for the United Arab Emirates.<\/p>\n

Likewise, it will address issues linked to trafficking in orphanages, the role of parliaments in reducing harm.<\/p>\n
