Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The president of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, reaffirmed, this Monday, in Luanda, the commitment of parliamentarians to building bridges of dialogue and fraternity, universal human values \u200b\u200bto be cultivated and preserved in a context of great challenges at the level worldwide.<\/b><\/p>\n

In her speech, at the opening session of the 147th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (UIP), Carolina Cerqueira stated that parliamentarians are called to unite to guarantee peace and its preservation.<\/p>\n

From the perspective of the Angolan parliamentary leader, in this difficult period on a global scale, marked by military clashes, it is necessary to reaffirm the commitment to justice and the need to strengthen institutions, honoring and keeping the common good in mind in each action and decision.<\/p>\n

\u201cSocial solidarity and aid to the humanitarian crisis have never been more urgent to save millions of human lives. Only by observing and enforcing this principle will justice be achieved and only justice leads to peace! There is no Peace without justice, there is no justice without forgiveness, there is no forgiveness without love, which is why we must believe that all time is for renewal, it is time to believe\u201d, asserted Carolina Cerqueira.<\/p>\n

For Carolina Cerqueira, it cannot be ignored that we live in a global context of wars, with harmful effects and causing the disruption and weakening of democratic and justice institutions, the permanent violation of fundamental human rights, with peace as the only way to follow.<\/p>\n

He added that military clashes in Eastern Europe, the Middle East, with a dangerous and growing escalation of hostilities, conflicts in several African countries and other parts of the world, have affected millions of people and destroyed humanity’s dream of a safe and peaceful, seriously compromising the success of international diplomacy mechanisms and parliamentary diplomacy initiatives.<\/p>\n

According to Carolina Cerqueira, strong institutions are needed, forged by strong women and men, capable of bringing together the reasons and foundations underlying the differences in the development of countries, economic, financial and social interests of groups whose achievement continues to persist beyond the shocking images every day, marked by young people drowning in the oceans in search of dreams of a better life or children who are denied fundamental rights and infrastructures being destroyed by deadly weapons that do not spare defenseless people.<\/p>\n

The guarantee of peace, the feeling of justice and the need to reinforce the role of institutions, he said, must constitute the guiding compass of actions as parliamentarians. \u201cWe must spare no effort in advocating with our governments and justice bodies to assume a dignified stance, with respect for human life and compliance with the laws, with fair and impartial judicial action\u201d, he stressed.<\/p>\n

He added that the rule of law must prevail, through the guarantee of strong institutions, which act according to the principles of morals, ethics and good customs, reversing the discourse of war on the agendas as the world faces other challenging problems that require immediate solutions.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will continue our action for peace and development based on the implementation of the sustainable development objectives of the SDGs and also guarantee the exercise of freedoms\u201d, he defended, adding that the fight must be to live better, in a freer and less prone to asymmetries that lead people to misery and absolute poverty.<\/p>\n

To achieve this goal, he stressed, it is necessary to guarantee fundamental freedoms, such as the freedom to think, the freedom to express one’s voice and the freedom to speak out in favor of citizenship, gender equality and social inclusion.<\/p>\n

Global and food security, the energy crisis in the face of the effects of climate change, have advanced and continue to be on the agenda of the day, welcoming, for this reason, the \u201c My Planet My Parliament\u201d Program .<\/p>\n

He also highlighted as concerns gender equality, inclusion of young people, orphanage trafficking, digital transformation, culture of transparency, combating corruption, terrorism and the involvement of citizens to restore trust in national institutions.<\/p>\n

Carolina Cerqueira pointed to Angola as an example to follow, due to the fact that it is currently firmly following the paths of peace, the challenges of reconciliation and national reconstruction as factors of economic development, stability and social cohesion, essential for the consolidation of democracy, unity and effective and permanent solidarity.<\/p>\n

It was due to actions in favor of peace and stability in Africa, particularly in the Great Lakes Sub-Region, an unquestionable contribution that earned the Angolan President the title of Champion of Peace, by the African Union.<\/p>\n

According to her, it is still necessary to ensure that citizens live in peace and can contribute to development, with the demographic dividend driving the creation of conditions for quality education and advanced technological training so that youth, the world’s main wealth, can participate with high knowledge and determination for the progress and prosperity of nations.<\/p>\n

\u201cWar should not be necessary to have peace! It is by cultivating peace that war is avoided,\u201d he said, stressing the need for the commitment to parliamentary action for justice, peace and strong institutions to prevail in the memory of all deputies and senators.<\/p>\n

Carolina Cerqueira took the opportunity to call on the candidates for the presidency of the UIP to demonstrate high political maturity, with decorum and parliamentary ethics prevailing.<\/p>\n

Candidates from Somalia, Malawi, Senegal and Tanzania are competing for the presidency of the IPU.<\/p>\n

The 147th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (UIP), which takes place in the Angolan capital until Friday (27), is attended by more than a thousand delegates from representatives of parliaments from all over the world.<\/p>\n

Founded in 1889, on the initiative of the Englishman William Randal Cremer and the Frenchman Fre\u0301de\u0301ric Passy, \u200b\u200bthe UIP is one of the oldest political organizations in the world and currently has more than 46 thousand deputies from 179 national parliaments, promoting peace and democracy.<\/p>\n
