Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The president of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, evaluated, this Tuesday, in Luanda, with her Portuguese counterpart, Augusto Santos Silva, the cooperation between the two parliaments.<\/b><\/p>\n

Speaking to the press, at the end of the meeting with his Angolan counterpart, Carolina Cerqueira, Augusto Santos Silva considered relations between the two parliaments to be excellent.<\/p>\n

He recalled that the two parliaments signed, in 2003, the cooperation agreement that has been implemented in three-year activity programs.<\/p>\n

According to the Portuguese parliamentarian, this cooperation has a technical level between the services of the Assemblies and a political level between deputies.<\/p>\n

He noted that parliamentary cooperation adds another level of excellent collaboration that currently exists between the two countries, at all levels.<\/p>\n

“It is an excellent relationship that is felt both at a bilateral level and within the framework of the CPLP and at the multilateral level of other organizations in which the rule has been the agreement of positions between Portugal and Angola”, he said.<\/p>\n

The leader of the Assembly of the Republic of Portugal said he had promised his Angolan counterpart that he would find time to visit Angola on a slightly longer basis.<\/p>\n

The president of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, was in the Portuguese capital this year, where she participated in the celebrations of the International Day of Parliamentarism.<\/p>\n

The International Day of Parliamentarism is celebrated annually on June 30th and corresponds to the date of creation of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in 1889, an organization that encompasses all Parliaments.<\/p>\n

The date was proclaimed through Resolution 72\/278 adopted at the United Nations General Assembly, on May 22, 2018.<\/p>\n

Invitation to PR to visit Portugal<\/p>\n

Augusto Santos Silva expressed satisfaction with the fact that the President of the Republic, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, had accepted the invitation to visit Portugal, in April next year, joining the celebrations of 50 years of Portuguese democracy.<\/p>\n

He said he is convinced that a reciprocal action will take place, in 2025, when Angola also celebrates its 50 years of independence.<\/p>\n

According to the leader of the Portuguese parliament, Angola’s independence was fair, legitimate and inevitable.<\/p>\n

Augusto Santos Silva is in Angola where he participates in the 147th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (UIP).<\/p>\n

“It is the first time that a Portuguese delegation from the IPU is led by the president of the Assembly of the Republic, which clearly shows the importance we attach to this General Assembly taking place in Luanda”, he expressed.<\/p>\n

Angola and Portugal belong to the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), which constitutes a space for political consultation, in which both countries can make valuable contributions in various areas of world diplomacy, taking into account the responsibilities they have on their respective continents.<\/p>\n

Cooperation relations between Portugal and Angola are based on a common cultural, legal and institutional matrix and specific technical skills in areas fundamental to development.<\/p>\n

Sharing a common language allows for an easier framing of Portuguese Cooperation intervention in Angola.<\/p>\n

Institutional cooperation between the two States has evolved dynamically over the years, developing both in the bilateral context, through the Strategic Cooperation Programs (PEC), embodied in programs and projects proposed and implemented annually with the collaboration of sectoral ministries, local authorities and civil society, in particular Portuguese (NGDOs), either in the multilateral context, in conjunction with other cooperation partners, which include European Union programs, such as delegated cooperation, for which Portugal also contributes as a Member State, and from the specialized agencies of the UN system.<\/p>\n
