Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The King of Bailundo, Tchongolola Tchongonga \u201cEkukui VI\u201d, was received with a party at the Escola de Samba Independente Tricolor do Brasil, as part of the visit he has been carrying out, since the 20th of this month, to this country, with the aim of reinforcing the historical ties between the two peoples.<\/b><\/p>\n

For the first time in this country, Tchongolola Tchongonga, staying at the Sa\u0303o Bento Monastery, a place that is part of the historical route of the City of Sa\u0303o Paulo, also visited the Chinco Science Cultural Center.<\/p>\n

Speaking to a local television channel, Ekuikui VI said that he would like to visit the place where the first Angolan slaves landed in Brazil, in addition to highlighting the importance of their trip to Brazil, as it will promote unification between the two peoples.<\/p>\n

For his part, the director of the Casa de Angola Cultural Center in Brazil, which promotes the king’s visit, Isidro Sanene, stated that there is a concrete and real Africa that needs to be connected with this South American country.<\/p>\n

During his stay in the Federative Republic of Brazil, whose return is scheduled for November 15th, the king of Bailundo will launch his first bibliographical work entitled “The hegemony of the Ovimbundu in the kingdom of Mbalundu\u201d, which portrays the linguistic ethnicity of the kingdom in Angola.<\/p>\n

History of the Bailundo Kingdom<\/p>\n

With a court made up of 37 members, the Bailundo Kingdom emerged during the reign of Ekuikui II, from 1876 to 1890. However, it was King Katyavala I who founded it, coming from the lands of Cuanza Sul with his family, when he lived in the vicinity of the Halavala Mountains.<\/p>\n

Before the 17th century, the kingdom remained outside colonial rule. It was only around 1770\/71 that Portugal settled in the Kingdom of Bailundo with the presence of a judge. In (1885) the Portuguese colony was already represented in the kingdom with a captain-major.<\/p>\n

King Ekuikui II had the character of an excellent diplomat. He dared to avoid war and encouraged the practice of agriculture among the population, and, during his reign, Bailundo did not face major wars. After his death, great wars arose that culminated in the subjugation of the locality and the entire Central Plateau region, in 1902.<\/p>\n

Also reigning in Bailundo were the sovereigns Jahulo I, Samandalu, Tchingui I, Tchingui II, Ekuikui I, Numa I, Hundungulo I, Tchissende I, Jungulo, Ngundji, Tchivukuvuku Tchama Tchongonga, Utondossi, Bonji, Bongue, Tchissende II, Vassovava, Katiavala II, Ekongoliohombo, Numa II, Moma, Kangovi, Hundungulo II, Mutu Ya Kevela (viceroy), Tchissende III, Jahulo II, Mussitu, Tchinendele, Kapoko, Numa II, Pessela Tchongolola and Ekuikui III Ekuikui IV.<\/p>\n
