Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The president of the National Assembly (AN), Carolina Cerqueira, received this Thursday, in an audience, the parliamentary delegation from the Bahamas, a country admitted a few days ago as the 180th member of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (UIP).<\/b><\/p>\n

Speaking to the press, the head of the Bahamas parliamentary delegation, Pia Roller, said she had shared ideas about her country’s parliament and the Angolan Parliament, which already has extensive legislative experience.<\/p>\n

He made it known that during the elections held in his country in 2021, seven women were elected to the legislative body, considering this a historic milestone.<\/p>\n

“As a young deputy, I sought advice from the president of the National Assembly of Angola and, also, to maintain bilateral relations in the parliamentary domain”, she highlighted.<\/p>\n

Pia Roller said that she also leads a non-governmental organization in her country to bring women to top positions.<\/p>\n

Located in the north Atlantic, the Bahamas archipelago is made up of around seven hundred islands, of which only thirty are inhabited. With a total area of \u200b\u200b13 thousand 949 square kilometers, its main neighbors are the United States and Cuba. Its neighbors are also Haiti, Turkey and Caico\u0301s, both to the southeast.<\/p>\n

Angola and Mozambique analyze parliamentary cooperation<\/p>\n

Also this Thursday, the president of the National Assembly, Carolina Cerqueira, spoke with her Mozambican counterpart, Esperanc\u0327a Bias, to discuss issues related to cooperation between the two parliaments.<\/p>\n

Upon leaving the meeting, the leader of the Assembly of the Republic of Mozambique said she had congratulated her Angolan counterpart on the fact that the country was hosting the General Assembly of the IPU.<\/p>\n

“We salute Angola for hosting this General Assembly of the IPU, which is an event that makes us all proud, we Portuguese-speaking countries, because it is not easy to host an event of this nature”, he highlighted.<\/p>\n

Hearing with East Timor<\/p>\n

Carolina Cerqueira also received, in audience, the parliamentary delegation from Timor-Leste participating in the IPU Assembly.<\/p>\n

The head of the Timorese parliamentary delegation, Veneranda Lemos, thanked Angola for support in the liberation of her country.<\/p>\n

“Angola supported, from the beginning, the liberation of our homeland and I want to express my gratitude to Angola and the Angolan people for their action,” he said.<\/p>\n

The Timorese deputy also said that she had spoken to her interlocutor about her country’s proposal to make Portuguese the working language in the Inter-Parliamentary Union (UIP).<\/p>\n

East Timor is a country in Southeast Asia that occupies half of the island of Timor.<\/p>\n

Monuments in the capital, Dili, recount the country’s struggles for independence from Portugal in 1975 and, later, from Indonesia in 2002.<\/p>\n
