Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Five hundred and 59 mined areas, of the 604 cataloged in the province of Ui\u0301ge, have been demined, in the last 16 years, by the National Demining Institute (INAD).<\/b><\/p>\n

This information was passed on this weekend, in the city of Ui\u0301ge, by the director general of the National Mine Action Agency (ANAM), Leonardo Sapalo, at the closing of the workshop on Quality Management.<\/p>\n

The official reported that, from January to September this year, 294 explosive devices were removed in the province of Ui\u0301ge.<\/p>\n

Although these results are encouraging, he said there is still a lot of work to be done, aiming to liberate other mined areas.<\/p>\n

He considered holding the meeting an important step in the materialization of the current tasks regarding the improvement and modernization of the intended demining actions.<\/p>\n

In turn, the director of the Office of Economic and Integrated Development in Ui\u0301ge, Marcelino Ferreira, highlighted the commitment and determination of the government and partners’ commitment to freeing the mined areas.<\/p>\n

He also defended the need for continuous training of personnel assigned to demining, in order to improve the performance of their activities.<\/p>\n

The meeting, promoted by Popular Aid of Norway (APN), was attended by ANAM technicians from the provinces of Ui\u0301ge, Luanda, Zaire, North and South Lundas, Moxico and Cabinda.<\/p>\n

It discussed the creation of the National Mine Action Agency (ANAM), the Ottawa Convention, land liberation, contact management and guarantee, quality of demining, among other topics.<\/p>\n
