Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Empresa Interbanca\u0301ria de Servic\u0327os SA (EMIS) intends to raise awareness among 60 thousand people, in the province of Benguela, with the implementation of the second phase of the “Digital Citizen” project, launched this Wednesday.<\/b><\/p>\n

This project aims to promote the safe use of digital payment channels, as well as providing the population with the best ways to avoid financial threats.<\/p>\n

According to the executive director of EMIS, Pedro Cancela de Abreu, in Benguela, the project will last one year, as in Luanda, and 260 million Kwanzas have been invested so far.<\/p>\n

“The impact on citizens’ lives has been positive, with good results, as fewer cases of fraud are being recorded, depending on the guidelines received, such as protecting the card code, avoiding revealing it to third parties, etc. “, he stated.<\/p>\n

Referring to scams and fraud, Pedro Cancela de Abreu said that this year, EMIS recorded around 1,200 incidents, with emphasis on express cards, cloning and card exchange.<\/p>\n

“These infractions have decreased drastically, representing 800 million kwanzas, a very small number considering what has already been transacted on the multicaixa network. We are talking about more than 17 billion kwanzas”, he explained.<\/p>\n

Regarding the challenges faced, the executive director of the company The Bridge Global, Leonora Machado, stated that it has not been very easy because many people have not yet realized the benefit that the project offers in terms of security.<\/p>\n

“It’s a free project, but it needs to be more publicized”, he argued.<\/p>\n

Raising people’s awareness has been implemented in schools, universities, public and private companies, and in markets.<\/p>\n

Regarding the actual count regarding people’s awareness, he informed that they use impact measurement, by filling out a form on the ground, which will be handed over to a computer operator.<\/p>\n

The data is then sent to Luanda and from there it will be analyzed by a company outside the country.<\/p>\n

For this purpose, fifteen field agents and a computer operator were recruited who will work in the office to enter data. They received training and gained employment.<\/p>\n

In his intervention, the provincial director of Education, Edmundo Salupula, stated that the Provincial Government of Benguela will embrace the “Digital Citizen” project, not only to mitigate the effects of scams and fraud, but also so that children can grow up with the vein of technology.<\/p>\n

“The province of Benguela has 953 schools and if there are no obstacles, we believe that we are the number one partner to materialize this project, from primary to secondary schools”, assured the director.<\/p>\n

The “Digital City” project was launched for the first time in Luanda, in September 2022, where it reached more than 200 thousand people.<\/p>\n

According to those responsible for the project, the third province to implement it has not yet been chosen.<\/p>\n

EMIS is a company that manages the Automated Clearing House of Angola, comprising the Payment Card Management System (Milticaixa Network), the Credit Transfer System, the Check Clearing System, the Direct Debit System and the Instant Transfer System.<\/p>\n
