Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Works on the Soyo Refinery, where the US consortium Quanten plans to invest US$3.5 billion to process 100,000 barrels of oil a day, will start on April 28, announced the executive director of Sonangol Refina\u00e7\u00e3o e Petroqu\u00edmica Faustino Conde. .<\/b><\/p>\n

On a trip to Soyo, where, on Thursday, he contacted representatives of the local State government and the consortium formed by three US companies and Angola’s Atis Nebest, the official presented the construction project to the Provincial Government of Zaire.<\/p>\n

According to Faustino Conde, the 712-hectare plot of Matanga, in the southwest of Soyo, where the refinery and support facilities will be located, is identified, with the presentation of the project constituting an action prior to the start of the works, which should be concluded in 2025<\/p>\n

The construction of a processing unit and another for the supply of crude oil, transport and installation of accessories is planned, as well as a pier to anchor two oil tankers with a capacity of up to 100,000 tons of crude oil.<\/p>\n

The works also include the construction of a residential area for 1,000 employees, a plant for the production and treatment of drinking and residual water, a sanitary landfill for waste and an electrical plant.<\/p>\n

The governor of Zaire, Pedro Makita J\u00falia, valued the jobs resulting from the works and the subsequent operation of the refinery, as they open up long-term job prospects for the population of the province.<\/p>\n

The Quanten consortium, in addition to Atis Nebest, is made up of the North Americans Quanten LLC, TGT Inc and Aurum & Sharp LCC), was announced in March last year as the winner of the tender for the construction of the Soyo Refinery, holding 90 per percent capital of the unit, with the other 10 percent being held by Sonangol Refina\u00e7\u00e3o e Petroqu\u00edmica.<\/p>\n

Advances in Cabinda<\/b><\/p>\n

The equipment for the Cabinda Refinery is at an advanced stage of construction in Houston, United States, and should begin arriving in Angola in June, while the works started in October are proceeding at an accelerated pace on the implantation site.<\/p>\n

This was stated by Faustino Conde to the press, on the sidelines of the presentation of the Refnaria do Soyo project to the authorities of Zaire, pointing out the modular technological equipment such as the distillation column and other components of the processing unit.<\/p>\n

The equipment arrives in Cabinda via the port of Ponta Negra, in the Republic of Congo, after testing the supplier in the United States, where a team of Sonangol technicians is monitoring the process.<\/p>\n

“From the 21st of April of this year”, he announced, “another delegation composed of staff from the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas and Sonangol will travel to the United States of America, where it will attend the tests of the equipment \u201d.<\/p>\n

The Cabinda Refinery is being developed in Malembo, in an area of \u200b\u200b313 hectares of the perimeter adjacent to the Malongo oil field. Gemcorp and Sonangol are the owners of the project that is being built by Odebrecht, with the first phase expected to be completed in July 2022.<\/p>\n
