Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The doctor specializing in oncology at the Angolan Cancer Control Institute, Julieta Joa\u0303o, appealed Tuesday, in Malanje, to women, to cultivate the habit of regularly carrying out breast self-examination, with a view to cancer prevention.<\/b><\/p>\n

He reiterated that this practice helps in the early diagnosis of the disease and allows action to be taken in advance of treatment, thus preventing the development of the disease and death.<\/p>\n

The doctor made this appeal during a lecture on \u201cBreast Cancer\u201d, which marked the end of the \u201cPink October\u201d days, which aim to celebrate World Day to Fight Breast Cancer, which is marked.<\/p>\n

He said that in addition to self-examination, it is also necessary to go to routine consultations annually for a more detailed examination, adding that adult women are more likely to contract breast cancer, although it can also affect children and men.<\/p>\n

However, he warned of the need for women to breastfeed their babies, as well as abstaining from excessive consumption of alcoholic beverages, as a way of preventing cancer, especially breast cancer.<\/p>\n

For his part, the director of the Provincial Maternal and Child Hospital, the institution promoting the lecture, Avantino Sebastia\u0303o, lamented the fact that most of the cancer cases that the unit registers are admitted with an advanced clinical picture, forcing transfer to Luanda or ending in death .<\/p>\n

Some participants in the lecture highlighted the need to increasingly expand the forms of prevention, diagnosis and risk factors for cancer, so that women are more informed on the subject.<\/p>\n

Cancer is a disease characterized by a set of cells that reproduce in an abnormal and uncontrolled way, evolving into cancerous masses, abnormal bleeding, prolonged coughing, unexplained weight loss, changes in intestinal functions, among other signs.<\/p>\n

Breast cancer can also affect men, especially obese people, but women are the most vulnerable because their breast tissue is more developed.<\/p>\n

The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that the number of deaths from breast cancer worldwide rose from 6.2 million in 2000 to 10 million in 2020.<\/p>\n
