Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Penitentiary Service in Cabinda is preparing for the current 2023\/2024 agricultural season, twenty-six hectares of mechanized land in the areas of Yabi and Chinganga, south of the city of Cabinda, for the cultivation of varieties of products, with emphasis on cassava, corn, sweet potatoes and macunde beans.<\/b><\/p>\n

The launch of the campaign took place on Wednesday, in the town of Yabi, where the acting delegate of the Ministry of the Interior (Minint), Santos Manuel Alexandre, said it was a practice that aims to encourage prisoners to value agricultural activity.<\/p>\n

The delegate highlighted that agricultural production in commercial establishments is a strategy designed by MININT with the aim of guaranteeing diversified food self-sufficiency among staff and inmates and supporting the other bodies of the ministry with surpluses.<\/p>\n

He highlighted that for the success of the campaign there is a ministry plan that aims to promote training actions, within the scope of the specialty, to further train staff in knowledge of land farming in order to increase production through qualified human resources.<\/p>\n

In the previous season (2022\/2023) the penitentiary management produced a total of 124 tons of various products, namely cassava, sweet potatoes, watermelons, corn, cabbage, tomatoes, eggplant and macundi beans, which served as a complement to the diverse diet of the criminal population.<\/p>\n

He praised the commitment and dedication of the provincial directorate of penitentiary services in general and in particular the head and technician of the production department, who despite technical difficulties and qualified human resources, work hard to maintain production levels.<\/p>\n

In turn, the deputy governor of Cabinda for the Economic Area, Roma\u0303o Maca\u0301rio Lembe, who witnessed the act, praised the agricultural program that the prison services in Cabinda have carried out, in recent times, the dynamics of production with regard to participation in the fight against hunger and in improving the diet of staff and prisoners.<\/p>\n

He highlighted that the government of the province of Cabinda encourages this type of initiatives and the collaboration of work with the services linked to agriculture, livestock and fisheries of the provincial secretariat, in a partnership that aims, in the future, to create a cooperative of staff and inmates to improve mechanisms for working with land and crops.<\/p>\n

To this end, he said that technicians from the provincial secretariat of agriculture, livestock and fisheries will collaborate to create a cooperative for Cabinda’s penitentiary services and inmates.<\/p>\n

He also said that the prospective Cooperative should be registered in the province’s cooperative database to benefit from the policies that the Government has, within the scope of cooperativism at national level.<\/p>\n
