Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Action for Rural Development and Environment (ADRA) recently closed the Kukuna project in the commune of Funda, municipality of Cacuaco, province of Luanda, in an event that included the participation of partners from Block 15, namely Exxoon Mobil, Sonangol, Azule Energy, Equinor, the deputy municipal administrator of Cacuaco, Isabel Vesse Vesse and several other entities were also present.<\/b><\/p>\n

The Kukuna project began in August last year and is financed by Block 15 members. It cost 225 thousand US dollars, benefiting 289 small family agricultural producers. Of the aforementioned number, divided into five cooperatives implemented in the program to strengthen family farming in the region, 75 are women.<\/p>\n

The deputy municipal administrator for the Political and Social area, Isabel Vesse Vesse, said she recognizes with great esteem and honor the results of the initiatives implemented by Action for Agrarian Development (ADRA), focused on communities across the country.<\/p>\n

Isabel Vesse Vesse illustrated the Kukuna Project, in the commune of Funda, in Cacuaco, which directly benefited more than 280 people organized into five cooperatives.<\/p>\n

“We know that the fight against poverty in the municipality of Cacuaco and in the country in general has not been easy, but with these initiatives from different institutions such as ADRA, the members of Bloco 15 and others, who believe in, support and finance these initiatives, we believe and hope for better results\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n

In turn, the project coordinator, Joa\u0303o Nogueira, said on behalf of ADRA, that the project contributed to the fight against poverty and promoted sustainable local development in the municipality of Cacuaco, as well as strengthening the productive, organizational and awareness-raising capacity for the preventive health of small family farmers.<\/p>\n

The person in charge also explained that the project was implemented with the monitoring of the Municipal Administration of Cacuaco, through the Municipal Directorate of Agriculture, the municipal Agrarian Development Station and the Municipal Directorate of Health.<\/p>\n

Representing Block 15, Armando Afonso assured that the project had a great impact on the lives of the communities and as an oil producing company one of the major commitments is to leave references in the communities that have value and are lasting.<\/p>\n

“One of the areas in which we invest, in addition to oil, is social investment, with priority given to Health, Education, Agriculture, Environment and families. It is in this context that we are here today to witness the conclusion of this project, as it is with the healthy and hungry communities that we can have a prosperous country\u201d.<\/p>\n

For Jose\u0301 de Castro, municipal director of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, he highlighted that in addition to being trained and equipped with tools to carry out their activities with professionalism, the Kukuna project, in Funda, changed the lives of citizens organized in cooperatives and the your families.<\/p>\n

The person responsible left a challenge to the private sectors to get involved in agricultural productive activities and not just leave it to the Government, as there are still 20 more cooperatives in the commune of Funda waiting for support of this level.<\/p>\n

The results achieved reflect the agricultural activities of the members of the respective cooperatives, improving the internal functioning of the cooperatives and their level of interaction with the Municipal Administration structures.<\/p>\n

The project strengthened the cooperatives’ relations with the market, the dissemination of information on food and nutritional security and biosecurity measures to prevent Covid-19 among local communities.<\/p>\n

Results achieved are encouraging<\/p>\n

According to the ADRA representative, the main results achieved in the current period were support for agricultural activities, in a total of 289, of which 75 are women, through technical assistance using Farmers’ Field School methodologies; the rehabilitation of three kilometers of the irrigation ditch and direct assistance and access to production factors.<\/p>\n

Improving the internal functioning of the five cooperatives, an action carried out through 14 training sessions on associations, cooperativism and support in the drafting of internal regulations, is also part of these results.<\/p>\n

The cooperatives’ relations with the market were also reinforced through 13 training sessions on general aspects of marketing agricultural products and the provision of five motorized tricycles for the cooperatives with the creation of five community funds.<\/p>\n

The dissemination of information about public health among members of the cooperatives included five awareness-raising lectures on preventive health, focusing on malaria and schistosomiasis, as well as three training sessions on soap making.<\/p>\n

According to the graph, the project managed to achieve the recommended results, judging by the strengthening of family farming in the municipality, specifically in the commune of Funda.<\/p>\n

In terms of inputs and other materials for the development of agriculture, in that region, the following were provided; 2.8 tons of various horticultural seeds, 30.1 tons of fertilizers, 10 units of sprayers (20 liters dorsal), five units of diesel motor pumps and 500 meters of irrigation hose.<\/p>\n

In the period in question, the cooperatives allocated around 10 million and 45 thousand kwanzas, distributed in Cooperativa Angola\/Spain 900 thousand kwanzas, Kidimakagi – one million, Malengue 3 – 1,700 million, Seteka – 5 million, Twapandula 945 thousand and Associac\u0327a\u0303o da Mulher from Bairro Fortim – 500 thousand.<\/p>\n

Beneficiaries<\/p>\n

Arlinda Chilombo, 40 years old, from the Angola-Spain cooperative, said that the project brought many benefits to the peasants in the Funda commune and to her and her family in particular.<\/p>\n

“Peasants who practice family farming, in the past, did not have what they have today with the arrival of ADRA, taking into account the good policies brought in, through the training of field techniques. I am very satisfied with everything I learned and I will put everything in practice, as well as passing on the experience to others\u201d.<\/p>\n

Marcial de Oliveira, another beneficiary of the Seteka cooperative, of which he is the general secretary, said that it was through this project that he had the opportunity to cultivate various agricultural products such as onions, tomatoes, cabbage, eggplants, cabbage, among others, which fortified and made production stable during the current period.<\/p>\n

For him, agriculture is the main activity for supporting his family, and he emphasized the training sessions, the technical assistance he benefited from, as well as the exchange of experience with peasants from other regions of the country, meant that the cooperative had another dynamic.<\/p>\n

He added that with this Project, in the future, he foresees the expansion of production, part of the harvest of which will allow the family to have more food, while the rest can be sold, in order to obtain financial income to satisfy other needs.<\/p>\n

The ceremony ended with a visit to the Malengue-3 cooperative, around four kilometers from the EN 110, where visitors came into contact with floodgates and irrigation ditches that take water to the farms from the Zenza river.<\/p>\n
