Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Forty-one million, 216 thousand 405 kwanzas is the amount collected, through the issuance of animal transit guide and health inspection, carried out from January to October of this year, by the Veterinary Services in the province of Cunene.<\/b><\/p>\n

The information was provided this Monday, by the head of Veterinary Services in Cunene, Cla\u0301udio Sima\u0303o, highlighting that, compared to the previous period, there was an increase of nine million 972 thousand and 743 kwanzas.<\/p>\n

He said that the amount in question results from the payment of fees and charges for the issuance of a health guide for the transit of animals, originating from the Republic of Namibia and their derivatives, which entered the border posts of Santa Clara and Calueque, slaughter and sale inspection actions of meat, as well as the transit of animals from Cunene to other regions of the country.<\/p>\n

Along this path, he pointed out the entry into the country of live animals such as cattle, goats, as well as some wild animals such as zebras, lions, parrots, peacocks and ostriches that have been imported by users, in farmer systems, who intend to preserve wild fauna.<\/p>\n

Cla\u0301udio Sima\u0303o clarified that, during the first six months, the agency recorded the movement of 2,632 heads of cattle, 15,543 goats, 1,424 pigs, 755 sheep, six horses, 13 ostriches, 18 wild goats and 15 thousand 300 different birds.<\/p>\n

He said that the animals were intended for slaughter and others for breeding on farms for reproductive purposes, which were destined for the provinces of Luanda, Hui\u0301la, Benguela, Malanje and Lunda Norte.<\/p>\n

As for meat production, he pointed out the slaughter of 73 cattle, 1433 goats, 971 pigs, which makes up 78 thousand 658 kilograms of meat.<\/p>\n

He justified that the number of animals slaughtered officially in Cunene is quite low, because breeders tend to take the cattle to other places, due to the market price, and others are slaughtered clandestinely.<\/p>\n

\u201cMuch of the biological raw material leaves Cunene alive and goes to other national markets. There where there is a high number of meat production and jobs created\u201d, he clarified.<\/p>\n

The official lamented the fact that the region does not have a functional industrial slaughterhouse for the use of animal derivatives, but rather slaughterhouses and rural slaughterhouses.<\/p>\n

Data from the Veterinary Services (SV) indicate that Cunene has effective control of one million and 100 thousand heads of cattle, two million 150 goats, 75 thousand sheep, 50 thousand pigs, two thousand 700 horses, six thousand donkeys and two million and 500 birds.<\/p>\n

Of this livestock population, the traditional sector holds 75 percent, while farmers control 25%.<\/p>\n
