Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The President of the Republic, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, inaugurated, this Monday, the first phase of the Teresa Afonso Gomes Centrality, located in the city of Caxito, province of Bengo.<\/b><\/p>\n

In this initial phase, 80 buildings were built, of which 72 house shops and 486 homes, eight of which are single-story houses, as well as health and police posts and a 24-room primary school.<\/p>\n

In the second and final phase, the construction of a further 78 buildings of different types is expected, making a total of one thousand homes, namely 946 apartments, 30 single-story houses and 72 shops.<\/p>\n

The first 486 housing units, out of a thousand planned, will mainly benefit public employees, with a quota earmarked for youth.<\/p>\n

The housing project is the second in the province of Bengo, after Centralidade do Capari, the first to come into operation, with 4000 housing units.<\/p>\n

The centrality, which is now called “Teresa Afonso Gomes\u201d, in honor of the heroine who participated in the process of national liberation struggle, has a total of one thousand dwellings, including 946 apartments, 30 houses and 72 stores. It comprises buildings from type T3, with four floors.<\/p>\n

The centrality also includes several social structures such as primary and secondary schools, health center, police station, multipurpose field, kindergarten and 11-a-side football field.<\/p>\n

Authorized by the President of the Republic, through Order No. 54\/21, of April 29, the Centrality was budgeted at 182.9 million US dollars, plus USD 4.5 million for the inspection contract.<\/p>\n

Tribute to Teresa Afonso Gomes<\/p>\n

Teresa Afonso Gomes was born in Nabuangongo, in 1946, and died in March 1967, at the Quincuzo Base (Congo Kinshasa), now DRC.<\/p>\n

Daughter of peasants, Teresa Gomes only completed primary schooling and, from an early age, supported the guerrillas who fought in the MPLA’s first political-military region.<\/p>\n

In 1965 he attended a course at the Revolutionary Instruction Center (CIR), in Dolisie, and joined the “Kamy Squadron” (a guerrilla column formed by fighters from the Popular Army for the Liberation of Angola (EPLA).<\/p>\n

This squad was especially known for integrating five women guerrillas who founded the OMA, namely Deolinda Rodrigues, Engra\u0301cia dos Santos, Irene Cohen, Lucre\u0301cia Paim and Teresa Afonso Gomes (the honoree).<\/p>\n

Construction work on the centrality began in February 2022 and generated approximately 1,350 new direct jobs.<\/p>\n
