Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Inhabitants of the province of Cunene said this Wednesday that the construction of the new Luanda International Airport, called Dr. Anto\u0301nio Agostinho Neto \u201cAIAAN\u201d, to be inaugurated on Friday (10), constitutes an indelible milestone in the history of aviation civil in the country<\/p>\n

For nationalist Elias Satyiomba, the new airport, in addition to bringing several benefits in the economic and social domains, is a major gain in the history of aeronautics in Angola and Africa.<\/p>\n

Due to its size, he believes that the airport will solve the problems of travelers, tourists and especially businessmen who will be able to move their goods more easily and comfortably.<\/p>\n

In turn, the representative of the Council of Christian Churches in Angola (CICA) in Cunene, Joa\u0303o Gimbe, said it was a gain for Angola and Africa, in particular, the SADC countries, allowing a development projection that marks 48 years of national independence.<\/p>\n

The AIAAN is a successful vision of the Angolan Executive, led by President Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, which will facilitate the movement of people and goods, improve the country’s historical path and the dignity of users.<\/p>\n

Economist Jose\u0301 Kalombe said that, with the size of the infrastructure, Angola is sending a signal to the world that it is ready for the challenges of the sector, as the airport was designed to receive any and all types of aircraft.<\/p>\n

He believes that Dr.Anto\u0301nio Agostinho Neto Airport will provide new employment and business opportunities, allowing the transit of goods more efficiently and quickly.<\/p>\n

It was stated that current goods arrived in the country by sea and other railways, but now the process of importing and exporting goods will be faster, due to the inclusion of all services.<\/p>\n

Political scientist Ismael Alfredo highlighted the capacity of the infrastructure as an indelible milestone in the history of civil aviation in Angola.<\/p>\n

According to him, having the country have an airport of this size will guarantee greater security in the circulation of national and international flights, as well as contributing to the reception of tourists and consequently the collection of revenue for the State coffers.<\/p>\n

He argued that it will bring so many advantages from a political, economic and social point of view to the country, taking into account the inclusion of various services, which will allow the employability of more young people.<\/p>\n

History of the construction of the Dr.Anto\u0301nio Agostinho Neto International Airport<\/p>\n

The history of the construction of the new international airport dates back to the 90s, when the Council of Ministers approved, in 1997, the Resolution that emanated from a case study developed by the World Bank.<\/p>\n

After 8 years, in 2005, a feasibility study for the new airport was presented, prepared by an American company, Perkins & Will.<\/p>\n

Then, in 2006, on the 15th of May, Decree No. 12\/06 was approved by the Council of Ministers, which formalizes the reservation of land for the construction of the airport.<\/p>\n

In 2007, the Military House of the President of the Republic, specifically the National Reconstruction Office, assumed responsibility for monitoring the project, which was limited to preparing the project and hiring the partner (contractor).<\/p>\n

In 2012, the Portuguese company A1V2, the first to work at this airport, was hired to carry out the construction project for the airport.<\/p>\n

On May 15, 2015, the contract was signed with China International Found (CIF). This time, the project was carried out by the Chinese company, which was also responsible for engineering and construction.<\/p>\n

On May 19, 2020, addendum No. 1 to the construction contract was signed with AVIC, which defined what today represents the airport’s final project.<\/p>\n

On June 17, 2022, the first experimental flight was carried out, using a Boeing 777 type aircraft from the national flag company, TAAG.<\/p>\n

The plane left 4 de Fevereiro International Airport and, with a flight time of 13 minutes, landed at the new airport. This flight primarily served to test the technical conditions of the runway and movement in the apron area.<\/p>\n

November 10, 2023, is the date set for the inauguration of AIAAN, and it will begin activities with cargo operations.<\/p>\n

Domestic flight operations are scheduled to begin in February 2024, and international flight operations will begin in June of the same year.<\/p>\n
