Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>A tribute to the first President of the Republic, Anto\u0301nio Agostinho Neto, marked, this Thursday, in Havana, Cuba, the beginning of the Days of 48 years of National Independence, to be celebrated on Saturday, 11 November.<\/b><\/p>\n

Angolans and Cubans gathered at the African Heroes Park in the Cuban capital, where there are bronze images of 15 African leaders who contributed decisively to the fight against colonialism and to the unity of Africa.<\/p>\n

On the occasion, the Angolan ambassador to Cuba, Ca\u0302ndida Teixeira, laid a wreath of flowers on the bust of Agostinho Neto, highlighting his figure as the founding father of the Angolan nation and as a “man of all times”.<\/p>\n

\u201cAgostinho Neto knew how to interpret the feelings of independence of his people and face the bloody process with determination and firmness, when great dangers and obstacles tried to prevent the realization of that precious good that is freedom\u201d. said the diplomat.<\/p>\n

For his part, the vice-president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples, Victor Gaute, highlighted the long path of fraternity and solidarity with the Cuban revolution built by Neto since the sixties and consolidated by the internationalist vocation of the Cuban leader, Fidel Castro Ruz.<\/p>\n

Cuba has been a strategic partner of Angola since the country’s National Independence in 1975, and supported it in the war against the “apartheid” regime in South Africa.<\/p>\n

The two countries maintain cooperative relations in various areas, such as Security, Education, Health, Transport, Public Works, Construction, Sports, Culture, Tourism and Agriculture.<\/p>\n

The two States established diplomatic relations on November 15, 1975, four days after Angola’s independence and a year later signed the general cooperation agreement.<\/p>\n

This Saturday (11), the Republic of Angola celebrates 48 years of independence from the yoke of Portuguese colonialism.<\/p>\n
