Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The National Authority for Economic Inspection and Food Safety (ANIESA), in the province of Huambo, started this Monday a campaign called \u201cOperation Christmas\u201d, with the aim of stopping speculation in the prices of basic food products.<\/b><\/p>\n

For the initiative to be successful, inspection visits will be carried out at commercial establishments, among others, in order to evaluate the method of sale, the definition of food prices and the expiry dates of the products.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the press, the coordinator of ANEISA in the province of Huambo, Manuel Vitongue, said that the campaign aims to influence compliance with legal obligations by economic agents and ensure the protection of consumer rights.<\/p>\n

He informed that the campaign, scheduled to end on January 5, 2024, will be aimed at importers, wholesalers and retailers, as well as other links in the commercial chain in the province of Huambo.<\/p>\n

The official said he hopes that in the end there will be a reduction in acts of speculation in the prices of basic food products and a reduction in the risks that affect the quality and food security of the population.<\/p>\n

To this end, he added, work will be done to control the price calculation structure, identify weaknesses and the functioning of the normal cycle of the market’s commercial chain.<\/p>\n

He called on commercial agents not to embrace the practice of speculating on product prices and altering the physical conditions of establishments, under penalty of being sanctioned for infractions during inspection activities.<\/p>\n

ANIESA was created through Presidential Decree No. 267\/20, of October 16, as an inspection body for economic activities. It is made up of inspectors from commerce, hotels, health, agriculture and other related areas, who control the prices and quality of products on sale.<\/p>\n
