Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Two hundred 79 thousand, 333 meters are free of mines, in seven areas on the outskirts of the city of Luena, in the province of Moxico, in a project that was funded by Japan.<\/b><\/p>\n

As part of the Japanese country’s program called “Assistance Grant for Community Human Security Projects”, the demining activity, which began in April 2022 and ended in March of the current year, cost Japan’s coffers 600 thousand 976 US dollars. Americans.<\/p>\n

Part of the Canhengue region, Mandembwe 1, Vila Luso 1 and 2, Cajamba 1, Lumege Pinto, the bridge over the Lumege river and the perimeter at Luena airport “Comandante Dangereux” were cleared, where two thousand 263 various explosive devices were removed and destroyed , 653 light ammunition, 72 anti-personnel mines and 13 anti-tank mines.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the handover of the demined areas, the general director of MAG in Angola, Nelson Veri\u0301ssimo, said that the demining action benefited 27 thousand 737 inhabitants who now normally practice agricultural activity.<\/p>\n

In turn, the Japanese ambassador to Angola, Suzuki Toru, stated that they have already supported the country in demining, with a monetary value of 1.6 million US dollars for the social, economic and sustainable development of our country.<\/p>\n

The deputy governor of Moxico for the Political, Economic and Social sector, Victor da Silva, said that people from these communities will be able to move freely, carry out their agricultural activities and go to school.<\/p>\n

He asked that similar gestures be carried out in this and other provinces of the country, where mines continue to be at risk.<\/p>\n

The Government of Japan supports several local projects in Angola, namely the Community Project Assistance (APC) program since 1989 and the Project Assistance for Japanese Non-Governmental Organizations.<\/p>\n

Since 1999, the Japanese country has supported 31 different projects in rural communities in the demining area, totaling more than 16 million non-refundable dollars.<\/p>\n

MAG, a non-governmental organization, works in 32 countries around the world to implement demining, stock management and ammunition projects. He has been in Angola since 1994.<\/p>\n

The country freed 90 percent of areas suspected of being contaminated by mines between 2015 and 2020. The provinces of Moxico, Bie\u0301 and Cuando Cubango are those that still present some danger from mines, according to the National Demining Center (CND).<\/p>\n
