Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The country’s exports totaled US$3.7 billion in the third quarter of this year, according to the Minister of State for Economic Coordination, Jose\u0301 de Lima Massano. <\/b><\/p>\n

The Minister of State, who was speaking in Parliament, as part of the discussion, in particular, of the proposal for the General State Budget (OGE), said that the value represents a drop of around 28 percent compared to the same period in 2022.<\/p>\n

In the same period, he said, US$3.6 billion in goods were imported and US$1.3 billion were paid.<\/p>\n

“Fuel imports had a relevant weight in the third quarter, with around 772 million dollars, and food goods with around 482 million dollars. If we look at what we are importing, we can say that the country had to organize itself to increase the production of rice, cooking oil and sugar, products that we are initially able to produce”, he highlighted.<\/p>\n

The Minister of State, who responded to the deputies’ concerns, spoke, on the other hand, of the exchange rate crisis, stressing that the country must focus on national production, increasing the supply of goods and services and reducing recourse to the external financial market.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe cannot use international reserves to meet this deficit and we hold the national currency, because the pressure would be on the currency and we would be in a situation of great insecurity in the medium and long term”, he highlighted.<\/p>\n

According to the Minister of State, the country currently has the resources to ensure the external survival of the economy, the responsibilities assumed towards the outside world and in the event of pandamias or other types of calamity, requiring the use of foreign currency.<\/p>\n

For this reason, the Government took a set of measures such as establishing minimum reference prices for the acquisition of a set of goods produced in the country.<\/p>\n

“We are inviting Angolans to produce and the State will buy essential foods there, which are part of those eligible at this time”, he stressed. He also advanced the survey on the country’s production capacity and manufacturing facilities as a measure.<\/p>\n

According to Jose\u0301 de Lima Massano, public institutions and others dependent on the OGE are also being encouraged to make mandatory national purchases of various products.<\/p>\n

He also highlighted the line of credit to be established to support commercial producers, to boost family farming.<\/p>\n

Jose\u0301 de Lima Massano also highlighted the review of the VAT code to stimulate production, as well as the creation of the commission to develop the national financial inclusion strategy.<\/p>\n

The proposed General State Budget (OGE) for 2024, which foresees a salary increase in the public sector of around 5 percent, includes estimated revenues of 24 billion Kwanzas and expenses set at the same amount.<\/p>\n

In the same way, growth of 2.8 percent is estimated in 2024, essentially anchored by the non-oil sector, which is expected to grow 4.6 percent and a decrease in the oil sector with 2.6 percent.<\/p>\n
