Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Association of Judges of Angola (AJA) debuted, this Friday, on the national literary market with the academic work \u201cThe Sovereignty of the Courts \u2013 a look at the 2021 constitutional review proposal\u201d.<\/b><\/p>\n

Published under the auspices of Chalom publishers, the book, with 238 pages, was presented during the 1st National Congress of the Judiciary, which runs until Saturday, in the city of Huambo, with the participation of 200 national and international congressmen, including judges, lawyers and academics, under the motto \u201cThe Court and the Judge: the challenges of Angolan Justice\u201d.<\/p>\n

On the occasion, the vice-president of AJA, Lisandra Manuel, said that the work \u201cThe Sovereignty of the Courts \u2013 a look at the proposed constitutional review of 2021\u201d, brings, for jurists and academics, the transcription of the challenges of the Judiciary Angolan.<\/p>\n

The objective, according to the judge, is to raise the perception of Angolan Justice operators about the importance of the sovereignty of judges and their independence, in addition to carrying out a critical analysis of the impact of the 2021 constitutional review proposal.<\/p>\n

He informed that the book brings a series of compilations of articles and lectures by AJA judges and their partners, translated and transcribed, for the consumption of the academic society.<\/p>\n

In turn, the member of AJA, Liliana de Carvalho, informed that the work is divided into two parts, the first being on the project for the specific revision of the Constitution of the Republic of Angola, a look at the practical consequences of exercising jurisdictional functions .<\/p>\n

He said that the second part of the work concludes that there is a right of citizens to be judged and to have their cause led by a sovereign, independent and impartial judge, who acts in all acts of the process, as stipulated by the Constitution of the Republic of Angola and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.<\/p>\n

Liliana de Carvalho made it known that the academic work concludes that the courts are the supreme representation of the people’s sovereignty in all instances and specialties, in addition to having their own statute, as a sovereign constitutional body.<\/p>\n

He recalled that the Judiciary performs a function of general interest, for the benefit of Justice and the people, whose guarantees are based on the principle of sovereignty and the republican form of Government, so that any action against the independence of the judiciary means advances against the Angolan Constitution.<\/p>\n

The book contains dissertations by national and international jurists, with emphasis on Ana Paula Goudinho, Marcolino Moco, Sebastia\u0303o Vinte e Cinco, Manuel Soares, Bangula Quemba, Va\u0301lter Clau\u0301dio, Jose\u0301 Igreja Marques and A\u0302ngelo Matosso.<\/p>\n

The event was attended by, among other figures from the sector, the Executive Secretary of the Superior Council of the Judiciary (CSMJ), Manuel Vi\u0301tor Assuilo, the venerable advisor judges and retired presidents of the Supreme Court and the Constitutional Court, Cristiano Augusto Andre\u0301 and Rui Constantino Ferreira, respectively , in addition to the presiding judge of the Huambo District Court, Anto\u0301nio Filipe Sebastia\u0303o.<\/p>\n

AJA is a national, non-profit, private entity without any political-partisan or religious orientation, established on December 11, 2015, under Angolan law, with more than 300 members.<\/p>\n
