Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o, who was speaking after the inauguration of the Luele mining project, said that the objective is to attract other investors, especially the large multinationals in mineral resources, as occurred with the return of the giant De Beers.<\/p>\n

He welcomed the fact that another large diamond and other mineral exploration company, \u201cRio Tinto\u201d, invested for the first time in the country.<\/p>\n

The Holder of the Executive Branch expressed his commitment to respecting the so-called \u201cinitiative for transparency in extractive industries\u201d, subjecting himself to the scrutiny of this international organization.<\/p>\n

Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o declared that the country will seek to \u201cmake things clear, with as much transparency as possible to increase investor confidence\u201d.<\/p>\n

Luele mining project<\/p>\n

Considered the largest diamond project in the country and the third largest kimberlite in the world, the Luele mining project is a kimberlite deposit mine, which in the first phase could reach just over one million carats per year and a gross revenue of 60 million USD\/ year.<\/p>\n

It is located in an area of \u200b\u200b104 hectares and preliminary data points to the mine having a reserve of 350 million carats and a useful life of 60 years, 600 meters deep.<\/p>\n

The mine began prospecting between 2007\/2008 and expects to employ 1,30 workers in the first phase, out of the 1,500 planned.<\/p>\n

A balance presented by ENDIAMA, in 2021, on the company’s achievements that year, indicates that the mine produced around 1.7 million carats of diamonds, with an average monthly diamond production of 143.7 thousand carats.<\/p>\n

The President of the Republic is in Saurimo for a two-day working visit, during which, in addition to the inauguration of the Luele mining project, he will chair a meeting with the provincial government, for a generic assessment of the situation in Lunda-Sul .
