Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Angola assumed, on Thursday, the rotating presidency of Youth and Sports of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP) for a period of five years, during the XIV Conference of Ministers, held in the capital Luanda.<\/b><\/p>\n

The decision is the result of a final document from the meeting of those responsible for the portfolio, and, on that occasion, there was an exchange of portfolios between Sa\u0303o Tome\u0301 and Pri\u0301ncipe (outgoing) and Angola.<\/p>\n

During the two-day \u201cconclave\u201d, the ministers reiterated their commitment to continuing with the community cooperation program in the areas of Youth and Sports, with activities aimed at contributing to the affirmation of the CPLP in the national and international space.<\/p>\n

They recognized that a joint political strategy in the field of youth is crucial for promoting the sustainable development of Member States, in the social, economic and environmental spheres.<\/p>\n

The speakers recalled that young people are the guarantors of the community’s future and that climate change and environmental protection are among the main concerns of this age group.<\/p>\n

They highlighted the fact that every young person in the community can actively contribute to efforts to adapt and mitigate the effects of climate change, within the scope of the UNFCCC principles and implementation of the objectives of its Paris agreement.<\/p>\n

According to the final communique\u0301, participants reaffirmed CPLP’s commitment to the Sustainable Development objectives (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda.<\/p>\n

The Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP) was created on July 17, 1996, in Lisbon, and is made up of Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Portugal, Mozambique, Sa\u0303o Tome\u0301 and Pri\u0301ncipe and Timor -East.<\/p>\n

Its objective is political-diplomatic consultation and cooperation in all its forms, the promotion and defense of the Portuguese language through intense cultural dialogue.<\/p>\n

The Organization is governed by the principles of sovereign equality of Member States, non-interference in internal affairs, respect for their identity, reciprocity of treatment and the primacy of peace, democracy and the rule of law.<\/p>\n

It also defends human rights and social justice, respect for its territorial integrity, promotion of development and promotion of mutually advantageous cooperation.<\/p>\n
