Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, Diamantino Azevedo, stated this Friday, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, that Angola is aligned with the energy transition, when it is fair and equitable.<\/b><\/p>\n

In statements to the press at COP 28, the government official added the need to also be rational and take national interests into account.<\/p>\n

He said that Angola has been dealing with this issue for a long time and since President Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o’s first term, special attention has been paid to this issue.<\/p>\n

Oil activity is essential for the country and the economy’s most important resource, but the situation on the planet requires different attitudes in dealing with greenhouse gas emissions, among other harmful effects.<\/p>\n

“We have taken concrete measures, today the burning of gas is only carried out in special cases and with the authorization of the responsible minister”, he highlighted.<\/p>\n

According to Diamantino Azevedo, we started decarbonization programs with our partners, so COP 28 is another complement to the programs, both at ministerial and operator level.<\/p>\n

Regarding goals, he explained that the programs are not static and are seen as a process to continue, perfect and improve as long as these resources exist to be explored, highlighting that today it is not possible to live without oil and gas.<\/p>\n

He said that the fight must be continuous in the search for a greater balance of the need to use oil, gas and other natural resources on par with climate issues.<\/p>\n

“We don’t have to define a cutoff date, we have to pay more attention and define policies to simply serve these desires and not the interests of third parties with other ambitions”, he stated.<\/p>\n

He recalled that practically 99 percent of Angola’s revenue and foreign exchange come from oil, gas and diamonds and this mono-dependence demands a lot more from all Angolans.<\/p>\n

The Conference of the Parties (COP) 28 continues, this Friday, with the start of the World Climate Action Summit, the first day of the high-level meeting, among other activities.<\/p>\n

On this first day of the Summit, the Minister of State and Chief of Staff of the President of the Republic, Ada\u0303o de Almeida, will be present on behalf of the Head of State, Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o.<\/p>\n
