Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The United Arab Emirates renewable energy company, Masdar, will develop a project to build a 150 MW solar park in the municipality of Quipungo, Hui\u0301la province, the Energy Minister announced this Saturday and A\u0301guas, Baptista Borges.<\/b><\/p>\n

The project will create up to 600 direct jobs and provide clean electricity to 90,000 homes in the region with significant electricity supply challenges.<\/p>\n

Signed on the sidelines of COP 28, the contract provides that the project will significantly support Angola’s objective of increasing the national electrification rate to more than 50 percent by 2027.<\/p>\n

According to the government official, it is a private investment and will have solar capacity that will allow it to serve not only the region where it is located, but will also allow capacity to be transferred to the province of Namibe.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn this southern region of the country there is a significant shortage of energy supply and where we still use thermal energy, therefore it will also be a replacement for clean energy\u201d, he clarified.<\/p>\n

Baptista Borges explained that Masdar will supply energy to the public grid and private consumers and the supply will be ensured by the public grid.<\/p>\n

He said that it will be governed by an energy purchase contract that will be signed shortly between the National Transport Network (RNT) and the Park Operator.<\/p>\n

The contract signed, on the Angolan side by Baptista Borges and by Masdar, Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, provides for the concession of 25 to 30 years.<\/p>\n
