Following this position, Angola sent a note of protest to the OPEC General Secretariat.

However, the Government also recalled that Angola has been a member of OPEC for more than 16 years and during this period it has fully complied with all its obligations, as well as sharing the efforts made by the signatory countries of the Declaration of Cooperation of this Organization and its allies (OPEC+) have developed, with a view to stabilizing the international oil market.

The Angolan State General Budget for 2024 foresees an average oil production of 1.6 million barrels/day, estimating an average price of 65 dollars/barrel.

In the context of economic diplomacy, the headline of the week was the beginning of a new era in the strategic partnership between Angola and the United States of America (USA), with the guarantee of more North American financing in key sectors of the Angolan economy.

This fact was evident during the historic meeting between the President of the USA, Joe Biden, and his Angolan counterpart, João Lourenço, which aimed to strengthen diplomatic relations and the economic partnership anchored, mainly, in the field of oil.

During the meeting between the two Heads of State, agriculture, telecommunications, renewable energies, oil refining, trade, space exploration, defense and security were highlighted as the new focus of American investors and their respective States.

Currently, Angola is the USA’s third largest trading partner in Sub-Saharan Africa, with oil as one of the main assets of this strategic partnership, but there is a signal from both Governments to boost trade.

Another highlight this week was the inauguration of the Luele diamond project, which has a mine with reserves estimated at more than 600 million carats of diamonds.

Located in the commune of Mona Quimbundo, in Saurimo (Lunda Sul), Luele is considered the largest mine in Angola and it is estimated that diamonds are explored up to 600 meters deep, as well as the creation of three thousand direct jobs. , until 2026.

This week, the announcement of the first Investor Forum in the Angolan Okavango Region was also highlighted, taking place from 17 to 22 January 2024, in Menongue, in the province of Cuando Cubango.

This event will serve to present national and foreign investors the potential and business opportunities that exist in this location.

Under the motto “Exploring business opportunities”, the Forum will also allow the exchange of experiences between businesspeople operating in tourism in the cross-border region of Angola as another objective of the Forum.

The holding of this event is part of the Okavango/Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area (ATFC-KAZA) project, which, in addition to Angola, covers Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana and Namibia.

In Angola, ATFC-KAZA is located in the province of Cuando Cubango, covering the municipalities of Cuito Cuanavale, Dirico, Mavinga and Rivungo, where the Mavinga and Luengue-Luiana national parks are located.

This project, which aims to promote alliances in the management of biological and cultural resources, is the largest eco-tourist destination worldwide, connecting 36 conservation areas in five countries, having the largest freshwater reserve in the universe, the largest contiguous population of African elephant, more than 200 thousand, more than 600 species of birds, 128 reptiles, 50 amphibians and several types of invertebrates, as well as several types of animals on the verge of extinction.

The week also marked the signing of the agreement to avoid double taxation between the Republic of Angola and the Swiss Swiss Confederation, whose signatories were the Angolan Minister of Finance, Vera Daves de Sousa, and the Swiss ambassador, Lukas Gasser.

On the occasion, the Angolan government official considered that the elimination of double taxation provides a favorable business environment and contributes to sustainable development.

Another highlight was the holding of the Forum on sustainability in the Angolan financial system. the news in which the governor of the National Bank of Angola (BNA), Manuel Tiago Dias, considered the financial system embryonic, in relation to the level of maturity on environmental sustainability issues, the governor of the National Bank of Angola (BNA), Manuel Tiago Dias , said that Angola is at an embryonic stage in this field.

Another fact that marked the week was the announcement that the Special Economic Zone (ZEE) will begin manufacturing saline from 2024.

This is the result of an agreement signed between ZEE and the “Jampur” business group, to operate three manufacturing units from 2024 onwards, in this industrial park, with an initial investment of around 10 million US dollars.

angop

For More News And Analysis About Angola Follow <a
