Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The director general of the National Statistics Institute (INE), Jose\u0301 Calengi, appeals to Angolan local authorities, in general, to raise awareness among communities in participating in the General Population and Housing Census, scheduled for July 2024.<\/b><\/p>\n

For the coordinator of the Technical Support Group for the Multisectoral Commission of the Census\/2024, who spoke last Sunday, during an act of mobilization, in the municipality of Cambambe (Cuanza Norte), local government, traditional authorities and churches constitute fundamental vehicles for the dissemination of information related to the census event in the country.<\/p>\n

He considered it time to accelerate mobilization and enlighten people about the importance of the Census for the country’s socioeconomic life.<\/p>\n

To this end, Jose\u0301 Calengi recommends that local authorities, churches, residents’ committees, among other entities, use national languages \u200b\u200bin their communications, in locations where circumstances require it.<\/p>\n

On the occasion, the coordinator of the Technical Support Group for the Multisectoral Commission of the Census\/2024, recalled that, at the moment, the process of cartographic updating is taking place throughout the country, a fact that requires the greatest collaboration of the population to receive INE technicians and provide the required information.<\/p>\n

He explained that the cartographic update consists of defining legally established geographical limits, counting the number of residences by province, municipalities and communes.<\/p>\n

In turn, the deputy administrator of the municipality of Cambambe, Gelson Gomes, guaranteed that his administration has provided institutional support to census takers and also provided all necessary information to the population.<\/p>\n

The great chief of Cambambe, Paulo Cristo\u0301va\u0303o Andre\u0301, guaranteed to take the message about the Census\/2024 to the communities and explain that the process is one of the main mechanisms that helps the Government to outline public policies, depending on the reality and location of people.<\/p>\n

With the aim of clarifying, in detail, the importance of the Census and raising awareness among the population for massive participation in this process, the Technical Support Group for the Multisectoral Commission of the Census\/2024 worked last Sunday in the province of Cuanza Norte, within the scope of the methodological meeting for the general balance of the Pilot Census\/2023, which takes place from the 4th to the 6th of this month, in the province of Bie\u0301.<\/p>\n

The General Population and Housing Census\/2024 will be the third in the country’s history, the first being carried out in 1970, five years before Angola’s Independence, while the second took place in 2014.<\/p>\n

This process is carried out in two simultaneous censuses: population and housing, which allows obtaining reliable and updated statistical information, necessary for monitoring and evaluating the strategy to combat poverty.<\/p>\n

The General Population and Housing Census aims to provide a database for planning, management and decision-making, as well as building a sampling base for the selection of survey samples, among households.<\/p>\n

The objectives also include understanding the structure of the population for all administrative units in the country and strengthening the national technical and material capacity to conduct future data collection.<\/p>\n
