Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>A methodological meeting for the general assessment of the Pilot Census, held from the 19th of July to the 5th of September this year, in seven provinces of the country, takes place from the 4th to the 6th of this month, in the province of Bie\u0301, in an initiative of the Technical Group Support for the Multisectoral Census Commission\/2024.<\/b><\/p>\n

According to the coordinator of the Technical Support Group for the Census\/2024 Multisectoral Commission and also general director of the National Institute of Statistics (INE), Jose\u0301 Calengi, the meeting will evaluate the positive and negative aspects that affected the Pilot Census, with a view to remove the identified constraints, until the date of the General Census, scheduled for July of next year.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, the provincial governor of Bie\u0301, Pereira Alfredo, expects technicians to reflect, in detail, all incidences and occurrences of the Pilot Census process, in order to improve and safeguard the population census process in 2024.<\/p>\n

He highlighted that, from the point of view of technical support and population mobilization, the province of Bie\u0301 is prepared to carry out the General Population and Housing Census (Census\/2024).<\/p>\n

According to the governor, since the launch of the national census cartographic update process, in January of this year, the province has established technical, provincial, municipal and communal groups.<\/p>\n

These technical groups, he pointed out, provided support for carrying out the Pilot Census, which took place in the municipalities of Chitembo and Camacupa.<\/p>\n

According to the governor, at the central level there have been regular meetings to assess the province’s readiness and envisage engagement in the Census\/2024, with the main constraint being the accommodation of equipment, accommodation of technicians and the means of this activity.<\/p>\n

The government official, who was speaking during a hearing granted to the coordinator of the Technical Support Group for the 2024 Census Multisectoral Commission, Jose\u0301 Caliengi, assured that the province of Bie\u0301 will continue to engage all segments of society to reinforce mobilization in favor of the General Census .<\/p>\n

The Pilot Census, which took place in the provinces of Luanda, Bengo, Bie\u0301, Lunda Norte, Cuando Cubango, Ui\u0301ge and Cunene, allowed data to be collected from 35 thousand and 549 households, having preliminarily registered constraints in terms of interpretation of the collection instruments (questionnaire), some difficulties in handling materials and equipment, as well as difficult access in some locations.<\/p>\n

At the moment, INE is carrying out a cartographic update across the country, to obtain a more up-to-date picture of Angola’s geography.<\/p>\n

Angola carries out the third General Census in its history<\/p>\n

The General Population and Housing Census\/2024 will be the third in the history of Angola, the first being carried out in 1970, five years before National Independence, while the second took place in 2014.<\/p>\n

This process is carried out in two simultaneous censuses: population and housing, which allows obtaining reliable and updated statistical information, necessary for monitoring and evaluating the strategy to combat poverty.<\/p>\n

The General Population and Housing Census aims to provide a database for planning, management and decision-making, as well as building a sampling base for the selection of survey samples, among households.<\/p>\n

The objectives also include understanding the structure of the population for all administrative units in the country and strengthening the national technical and material capacity to conduct future data collection.<\/p>\n
