Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Secretary of State for Human Rights and Citizenship, Ana Celeste Janua\u0301rio, reaffirmed, this Tuesday, in Luanda, the Executive’s commitment to the continued adherence and ratification of human rights conventions and the reinforcement of dialogue with the mechanisms of United Nations.<\/b><\/p>\n

The official, who spoke at the opening of the Forum of Local Human Rights Committees, also highlighted the adoption of an education policy for the culture of human rights, as well as the strengthening of partnerships with civil society organizations and the work of human rights committees.<\/p>\n

He praised the work of the Local Human Rights Committees since they were established as local coordinators for the implementation and execution of Angola’s National Human Rights Strategy.<\/p>\n

“We recognize the efforts of the committee coordinators, as with your action we were able, among others, to carry out work to promote and protect human rights in all provinces of the country, boost actions to combat trafficking in human beings and collect information for the reports of the State in response to allegations and cases of human rights violations of which Angola is listed”, he said.<\/p>\n

He made it known that human rights committees had been put into operation at provincial and municipal level, and conditions were currently being created for the installation of district and communal committees.<\/p>\n

However, he recognized that there are many challenges in terms of promoting and protecting human rights in Angola, such as budgeting for committees for their full functioning, ensuring their own structures, creating committees in districts and communes, as well as reinforcing actions to disclosure and follow-up of complaints.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, the resident representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Angola, Denise Anto\u0301nio, defended the reinforcement of actions around the defense of citizens’ rights.<\/p>\n

He emphasized that the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which in the next few days celebrates its 75th anniversary, reflects, in general, a deep understanding of States with the equality and justice of citizens.<\/p>\n

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) was proclaimed and adopted by the United Nations General Assembly, through resolution 217, in Paris, on December 10, 1948.<\/p>\n

The document, with 30 articles, establishes equality and dignity for every human being regardless of race, color, religion, sex, language, political opinion, national or social origin, wealth, birth or any other condition.<\/p>\n

The declaration also stipulates that all governments have the obligation to ensure that all people exercise their rights and freedoms by ensuring the protection of human rights.<\/p>\n
