Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The multinational Azule Energy has joined the Global Oil and Gas Decarbonization Charter (OGDC), an initiative dedicated to accelerating climate action in the oil sector.<\/b><\/p>\n

The OGDC Charter was launched during COP28, the International Climate Summit, which takes place in the United Arab Emirates from 30 November to 12 December.<\/p>\n

According to the organization, to date, more than 50 companies representing 40% of global oil production have joined this initiative, with National Oil Companies (NOCs) representing more than 60% of signatories.<\/p>\n

This is the largest number of NOCs ever committed to a decarbonization initiative. The companies have committed to achieving net-zero operations on or before 2050, eliminating routine gas flaring by 2030, and reducing near-zero methane emissions in the upstream oil sector as much as possible.<\/p>\n

Azule Energy embraces decarbonization and carbon neutrality as part of its mission to strengthen the Angolan energy sector.<\/p>\n

In September this year, Azule Energy and General Sonangol, which also adhered to the Global Decarbonization Charter, signed a Memorandum of Understanding that aims to boost decarbonization initiatives in the country and promote the use of clean energy.<\/p>\n

For Adriano Mongini, CEO of Azule Energy, the company is committed to taking a leading role in supporting Angola’s energy transition.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur goal is to increase efficiency, transparency and collaboration, providing safe energy to support the development of the national economy,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The OGDC is a key initiative of the Global Decarbonization Accelerator (GDA), which was launched in December 2023, during the World Climate Action Summit.<\/p>\n

The OGDC is focused on continuing to work towards industry best practices in emissions reduction and a range of key actions, including investing in the energy system of the future, including renewables, low carbon fuels and emissions technologies. negative impacts, increase transparency, including improving the measurement, monitoring, reporting and independent verification of greenhouse gas emissions and their performance and progress in reducing emissions.<\/p>\n
