Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Minister of State for Economic Coordination stated, Thursday, in Luanda, that the new moment in relations between Angola and the United States of America will generate several opportunities for the Angolan business community in the North American market.<\/b><\/p>\n

Jose\u0301 de Lima Massano gave the guarantee to the press at the end of a meeting that the President of the Republic held with members of the Executive, including ministers of State and Productive sectors, before the meeting of the Local Governance Council, to address the future paths of relationship with the United States of America, as part of the meeting with his counterpart Joe Biden, in the Oval Office of the White House.<\/p>\n

Jose\u0301 de Lima Massano said that this moment will allow Angolan businesspeople to export more products made in Angola to that market, beyond traditional oil and gas, within the scope of the Growth and Opportunity Law for Africa, better known as AGOA.<\/p>\n

This moment, according to the Minister of State for Economic Coordination, will also open doors for more projects to be financed in Angola by North American institutions, as is already happening with the Lobito Corridor.<\/p>\n

“We are faced with a situation of greater ease and openness that must be taken advantage of”, he appealed.<\/p>\n

During the meeting, cooperation between the two countries in the fields of military, defense and security, infrastructure, telecommunications, transport, health, agriculture and trade was reviewed.<\/p>\n

A group of North American businesspeople linked to agriculture will visit Angola, in February next year, to explore investment opportunities in this area, as announced in Washington, on the sidelines of the meeting between Presidents Joa\u0303o Lourenc\u0327o and Joe Biden, the ambassador of Angola in the United States of America, Agostinho Van-Du\u0301nem.<\/p>\n

The diplomat highlighted that the USA began to give a different importance to the commercial relationship with Angola, having, as an example, informed that the North American Government appointed, for the first time, a commercial attache\u0301 for Angola.<\/p>\n

“This means that the United States of America has started to give a different importance to issues related to trade with Angola”, highlighted Agostinho Van-Du\u0301nem, for whom the American administration looks at the reforms underway in the country, with emphasis on improving the business environment, with great satisfaction.<\/p>\n

“AGOA is an opportunity for Angolan businesspeople to accelerate production for export”, he stressed on that occasion. Angola has already exported, in September this year, within the framework of this program, 23 tons of food products, through the company Foodcare.<\/p>\n

AGOA, enacted in 2000, has been at the center of the United States’ economic policy and commercial involvement with the African continent.<\/p>\n

The program provides eligible sub-Saharan African countries, including Angola, duty-free access to the US market for more than 1,800 products, in addition to the more than 5,000 products that are eligible for duty-free access under the System program. Generalized Preferences.<\/p>\n

To meet AGOA’s stringent eligibility requirements, countries must establish or make continued progress toward establishing a market-based economy, the rule of law, political pluralism, and the right to due process.<\/p>\n

AGOA has already helped strengthen economic growth, as well as promote economic and political reforms and improved US economic relations in the region.<\/p>\n

The program has already helped expand and diversify African exports to the United States, while also promoting an improved business environment in many African countries through the application of eligibility requirements.<\/p>\n

In 2015, the US Congress approved legislation that modernizes and extends the program until 2025.<\/p>\n
