Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>Two hundred and 42 cases worth eight billion, 72 million, 698 thousand and 899 Kwanzas, which involve public managers, suspected of corruption and embezzlement, are under the control of the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) in Huambo.<\/b><\/p>\n

The information was provided this Friday, by the provincial prosecutor of Huambo, Jose\u0301 Maria Gomes Gustavo, during a round table, which marked the celebrations of the International Day to Combat Corruption, to be celebrated this Saturday (9), under the motto \u201cCorruption is an evil that must be eradicated.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to the judge, of the cases in question, under the jurisdiction of the PGR, from June 2020 to the present date, 150 are in the investigation phase and 92 are in the investigation phase.<\/p>\n

He reported that the body archived, during the period under analysis, 35 criminal cases, the same number as investigations, while 31 were sent to court, awaiting judgment.<\/p>\n

Jose\u0301 Maria Gomes Gustavo reported that, as part of the fight against corruption, 24 vehicles in the possession of unauthorized persons had been recovered, which have now been returned to the Government of the province of Huambo and other local entities.<\/p>\n

He reaffirmed the PGR’s commitment to developing tasks, which consist of monitoring public management acts, especially contracts that include direct awards and all inherent practices, so that, whenever necessary, legality is restored.<\/p>\n

Before an audience made up of public managers, representatives of bodies involved in the administration of justice and those responsible for the arms and services departments of the Angolan Armed Forces, he made it known that the International Day to Combat Corruption was established with the aim of raising awareness among humanity about eliminate this harmful phenomenon.<\/p>\n

The date, according to the judge, also aims to raise the awareness of public managers and the population, in general, to adopt good purposes of the State.<\/p>\n

In turn, the vice-governor for Technical Services and Infrastructures of the province of Huambo, Elmano Francisco, called for more ethics in public managers, through respect for the norms of society’s code of conduct, which guide not to harm and appropriate the property of others.<\/p>\n

He mentioned that corruption, as an active and passive crime, must be avoided with the adoption of good practices already known in society by public managers and the population in general, taking into account the countless harmful consequences it entails, such as social inequality, exclusion and violence.<\/p>\n

During the event, topics on \u201cEthics and corruption\u201d and \u201cThe harms of corruption\u201d were discussed, with the aim of raising the ethical and moral standards of public managers, above all, so that the prevention of this phenomenon is based on the good handling of public goods.<\/p>\n

The event was also attended by representatives of the media, banks, religious bodies, traditional authorities, academics and other guests.<\/p>\n

International Anti-Corruption Day was established on December 9, 2003, by the United Nations (UN) with the aim of strengthening the prevention and fight against corruption on a global scale.<\/p>\n
