Africa-Press – Angola. <\/strong><\/span>The Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Esmeralda Mendonc\u0327a, reiterated this Monday, in Geneva, Switzerland, the importance of preserving the legacy of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) to meet humanity’s challenges.<\/b><\/p>\n

Esmeralda Mendonc\u0327a, speaking at the high-level session celebrating the 75th anniversary of the UDHR, reaffirmed Angola’s support for the mandate of Volker Tu\u0308rk, head of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).<\/p>\n

During his intervention, he presented the Executive’s commitments based on the national human rights strategy.<\/p>\n

The agenda presented by the Secretary of State is based on the completion of the ratification process of the international Convention for the protection of all people against forced disappearance, as well as preparing a visit by the OHCHR working group to Angola.<\/p>\n

Also on the agenda is the need to reinforce dialogue with the special procedures and bodies of the Treaties ratified by Angola.<\/p>\n

Angola’s commitments also include the development and implementation of the national education policy for a culture of human rights, as well as the need to strengthen the partnership with civil society organizations.<\/p>\n

The fifth and last indicates that Angola will focus on strengthening national Human Rights Institutions based on the Paris principles.<\/p>\n

The Paris principles detail the roles and responsibilities, composition, guarantees of independence and methods of operation for a broad mandate to promote human rights.<\/p>\n

Entitled “Initiative 75”, the event has more than a hundred participants from various countries, including Heads of State and Government, among others.<\/p>\n
